La Principessa is located at the base of the hills surrounding Lucca, on which many parks and gardens jealously hide the austere architecture of 'palaces on villas', the ancient homes of the most famous. |
 Of all these villas La Principessa claims the most distant origins: it was, in fact, the home and court of Castruccio Castracani (1281 - 1328) Lord and Duke of Lucca, man of arms and mercenary captain in the service of Ludwig of Bavaria, who succeeded in passing from history into legend, according to the tradition that holds that Machiavelli, impressed with his manner, found him the model for the Ideal Prince. |
