Where We Are

Loc. Vivo d'Orcia, Vivo d'Orcia, Castiglione d'Orcia, 53020

The Castle of Vivo d'Orcia lies in the widespread Orcia valley in southern Tuscany, 2 hours from Florence, 1 hour from Siena, close to such cultural jewels as Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano, to name but a few. The hamlet Vivo D'Orcia lies at an altitude of 900 m above sea level. The particular combination of altitude and meditteranean climate creates an unusual whealth of flora and fauna. Many wild animals such as deer, wild boar and foxes as well as the most deliscious truffles call the Monte Amiata their home.

How To Reach Us

From Fiumicino Airport: take the main highway towards Rome, but be prepared to turn off after some 8 kms northwards on the ring-road around Rome to join the highway A1 (follow the green signs to Firenze). Exit at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, about half-way between Rome and Florence.

From Ciampino Airport: take the ring-road north, following the green signs to A1 Firenze. Exit at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, about half-way between Rome and Florence.

Follow the indications for Chianciano Terme. 1 km before Chianciano Terme you will reach an Esso gas station. Shortly after turn to the left on the road indicated Monte Amiata, Via Cassia SS2. You are now on the road which circles around Chianciano Terme, at each of the following two crossroads turn left following the same indications if there are any, and keep going on this road. At first it will wind its way through the hills, then it will descend into the Orcia valley and lead directly to a T-junction with the Via Cassia SS2. (Attention: do not follow the first indication to Siena, but make sure you drive to the end of the road which leads you to the Cassia SS2). At this point turn to the right towards Siena and shortly afterwards leave the Cassia to your left following the signs to Campiglia d'Orcia and Vivo d'Orcia.

Coming from North: Leave the Highway A1 at the exit Firenze Certosa and drive straight onto the highway to Siena. Exit this at Siena Sud and from here onwards follow the indications first to Buonconvento, and staying on the same road to San Quirico d'Orcia and Roma. Shortly after the exit for Bagno Vignoni you will reach Gallina. 500 meters after which turn to your right following the signs to Campiglia d'Orcia and Vivo d'Orcia.

You are nearly there: Drive up to Campiglia, do not enter the village but continue to your right following the signs towards Vivo d'Orcia. When you have reached the main square of Vivo, turn to your right into the narrow street to the right of the post-office. Drive down this street keeping to your left when in doubt. At the bottom of this street you will reach a stone bridge on you left. Drive over the bridge through left hand gate down to the small church. You have reached the estate of Vivo d'Orcia.
As you drive down the small path you come upon a small church. The person who is expecting you will come out to meet you. In case he/she are taking other guests to their house this might take a moment.

You will be expected on the estate between 4 and 7 pm. Please call the estate at the latest 1 hour before your arrival.
