Villa Belpoggio is a classic example of a 17th century country residence designed for the Florentine aristocracy. This period house is right in the middle of the triangle connecting Florence to Arezzo and Siena. A wonderful broad vista sweeps from the Villa through the Arno Valley and the Chianti mountains: the panoramic beauty of the estate is reflected in the word "Belpoggio".
The yellow ochre "balze" (crags), awesome pyramide and blade-shaped rocky formations, remind us of the ancient lake that once covered part of this area. The shaded colours of vineyards, olive groves and oak-woods, make you think about the mysterious landscapes of Leonardo da Vinci and Piero della Francesca paintings. |
Restored with loving care it is a place where a limited number of guests can enjoy peace, nature and warm Tuscan hospitality. Staying at Villa Belpoggio means experiencing an old time atmosphere. Here the hens walk free through the fields, bread is baked in wooden ovens and the wild boar is hunted. But not only simple, genuine country living characterizes this area: following the Setteponti road that was the old Roman Cassia Vetus, you will find Romanesque parishes (like the wonderful example of Gropina), medieval villages, castles, abbeys and hermitages. |
Villa Belpoggio location provides so many options for fine dining, great and varied day trips to Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, the Chianti area, and excellent buying at the nearby Gucci, Prada, Fendi and Dolce e Gabbana outlets. Villa Belpoggio offers a junior suite, nine double bedrooms, each having its own private and new bathroom and three independent apartments with well-equipped cooking area. All rooms have air conditioning, with the exception of three, due to artistic and historical obligations. |
Each room has mini-bar fridge, tea/coffee maker, phone, tv sat, safe. Bed linen and towels will be changed daily. Every room is unique with fine furniture and many antiques that have been made by local craftsmen. Colours have been chosen and matched with great care. Breakfast is served in the old cellars - dug in the rock, with the traditional red brick vault where once the olive oil and the wine were kept - or outside, in a cosy corner of the garden, among the "Belvedere" and the small church. A bountiful buffet of local fresh food is prepared every morning. |
The ground floor of the Villa, classical, simple and cosy at the same time, is always available to our guests. The living and the reception rooms are furnished with antiques. The fireplace corner is a comfortable place to meet and converse. The small library is an invitation to discover a "different" Tuscany, beautiful, genuine and as yet unspoiled. Next to the Villa, in a very nice fruit garden, a swimming pool has been built of an old basin, which was once used to collect water for the fields. While enjoying a hydro massage, the surrounding wonderful Tuscan landscape will astound you. |
