The Versilian Coast stretches over more than 20 km, starting from Torre del Lago Puccini south, until reaching Forte dei Marmi north. This stretch of coast is characterized by a large sandy beach with exclusive bathing establishments. The elegant seaside resort Viareggio was one of the first resorts in Europe and even today Art Nouveau villas in the centre and along the promenade are witness of the splendour of these times. Thanks to the advantageous position, on the one hand far away from road noise and on the other hand close to all the interesting places of the Versilian Riviera, to the charming hilltop villages of the hinterland such as Pietrasanta and Camaiore (5 km), the Carrara marble caves as well as the beautiful places of the near Liguria like Cinque Terre and the Golfo dei Poeti. During the summer months are inviting cultural events such as the famous Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago, the so called Cittadella season or the Lucca Summer Festival and not to forget the Carnival of Viareggio, that has been taking place each year in February for more than a century, whooping up the streets and the historic quarters of the town. Day Trips should be made to the lovely little town of Pistoia (approx. 65 km), Florence 90 km and Siena 160 km.
