The staff is wonderful and friendly. We had to wait five inutes for someone, so they sat us in a lovely courtyard -- with a glass of wine. ... Delivery of breakfast items to our unit was spotty -- and forgotten at times.
The 'in this area' notebook in the rooms needs to be updated. ... One just leaves the key, as the entire stay was paid for in advance. ... Great tour of their winemaking facilities.
Wonderful mult-course wine tasting dinner. ... A magical place, with exquisite views, conveniently located between Florence and Siena. The facilities are kept in top shape, and the staff is gracious and knowledgeable.

I was not able to download your directions -- only the map. It was a bit confusing, but we asked someone in Greve who was happy to help! ... I am very appreciative of the special considerations that were made for us to have a late check-in so we were able to stay at the castle. Everything was wonderful, and everyone was very accomodating! ... Smooth & easy ... I don't remember if it was mentioned or not, but the view is absolutely breathtaking. ... Enchanting!!

I must say that we we very happy with our stay here. The property was very spacious and clean. While we were aware that breakfast was going to be by way of a basket...I still would have prefered a true B&B scenario with breakfast in the dining room. I would definately recommend this property to others.

We were overwhelmed by how nice the room was. They could spruce up the office area where they check your passports etc. ... This was the best stop on our tour through Italy. Wish we had more time at that location. The room and grounds were fantastic. I highly recommend Castello Vicchiomaggio. ... I'm not sure if we knew that the checkout requirements were so early. They're definitely not expecting guests to sleep in. ... It's a wonderful place to stay while traveling through the Chianti region. It's beautiful and romantic.

We were late arriving as we had car trouble on the autostrada from Venice. John and his wife Paola warmly greeted us and made us feel very welcome. The check-in was quick and they had someone show us around the grounds and to our room. ... The grounds were were absolutely fantastic and the view from our room was breathtaking! A true Tuscan experience. We were so fortunate that were there on a Monday night to be able to enjoy their Tuscan banquet. The tour was very interesting and informative. The wine, dinner and socializing were wonderful!! ... Very smooth. We had paid the bill in full for our 2-day stay (not nearly enough time) so checkout took just a couple minutes. ... As one of the reviews indicated that we read prior to booking, it is much, much more than we expected! When booking online, they can tell you and show you anything and make it look good. This place is the real deal!! The pool area is absolutely spectacular!! ... It is a great location in the Chianti area! The views are absolutely spectacular! We were fortunate enough to be there during harvest and found John walking his dog in the morning and overseeing the harvest. We stopped to ask questions and he took the time in his busy schedule to visit with us. The Tuscan banquest is a must!!! We had so much fun, as did everyone at our table. It was a real highlight of our 23-day trip to Italy. We will book again on our next trip to Italy! And this time we will line up cooking classes. We discovered the chefs were teaching a class for making pasta.

The room was not ready but we were made comfortable and offered refreshments. ... This was our second visit and would come back again if we are in Greve. ... Spacious, modern but still has the feel of an old estate..an excellent sense of history.

These folks are great! ... We felt at home, and love the excellent balance between care and letting us be!
The dinner and guided tour was lovely. ... This place is one of the top villas to stay in, I think, because it is so well kept. The chapel and gardens are also exceptional.

There is something 'magical' about arriving at VicchioMaggio. Hard to define, quite extraordinary. But we have to admit it was a little difficult to find the Office where we were greeted. ... It is almost impossible for web site photos to render the beauty and serenity of the Tuscan countryside - so VicchioMaggio did seem even better than what was portrayed on www.tuscany.net although your pages are very well designed.
One remark though, about our room(s): there were insufficient cooking utensils to really consider easily stirring up a true meal. Cooking simple pasta with an improvised basil sauce for 4 was a tedious and difficult task (both my wife and myself love to cook - and we know all the tricks). The stove produced weak heat. Then again, none of this really affected our stay in any dramatic way - it simply would have been even more magical to get into some real 'cuisine' while in the heart of Tuscany.
One other remark: parking within the 'walls' or 'fenced in area' is tricky for any type of car. Expect little space and much manoeuvering... Then again, there is alwasy the alternative of leaving your car 'outside' in a large parking lot - it really does not feel like the kind of place where you might witness much vandalism. ... Pictures of the pool on the web site do not give it justice: its design is quite extraordinary, one side with no lip, and its setting is wonderful along with very convenient, confortable and great looking 'accessories' (chairs, etc.). ... Absolutely charming and romantic. Breathes with authentic Tuscan life, past and present.

Castello Vicciomaggio is situated in a wonderful location to give beautiful views and easy access to the surrounding areas. The little town of Greve in Chianti has a charming piazza and markets Saturday and Sunday. Well worth the visit. Tour of the winery and dinner afterwards was lots of fun for both adults and children. Would recommend this location to my friends. ... Have wonderful terraces on which to sit and relax. Many residents drank wine watching the sunset, children played, while others read. The view is wonderful. ... Everything I wanted in my visit to Italy.

People just need to be prepared for stairs in the castle! Fantastic site!We went to the special dinner and tour at their site and all was better then expected! ... the view is awesome and from our room we could view the valley and all its splendor! ... A step back in time to greatness and splendor. The room was spacious and well maintained with very high ceilings and the doors were massive wooden barriers for all but the invited! The view from the pool was breath taking as the water seemed to flow over the one edge and into the valley below!

There´s no official check out as you pay during the check in procedure. In the room you´ll find directions from the staff saying, that You should leave the keys at the door of the room, when you leave. We found it very convenient. ... We would suggest Castello Vicchiomaggio to all of our friends as a excellent place where to stay while visiting Tuscany! It has a special charm and aura, which you just cannot miss. The nearby village Greve is a nice place to have your morning coffee and evening wine in case you stay in the region for some time. It´s also a good location for those who enjoy walking - we took a long walk (ca 7 km to one direction) across the nearby hills and valleys and enjoyed it immensely.

The rooms were VAST by European standards, and huge by American standards. ... Terrific. Huge, clean rooms. Stunning views of the valley, a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves. An great experience. Lots of conveniences, best bathrooms we had in Italy, largest rooms, full kitchen. You feel like you are in a castle, but in the suite of the castle's lord, not the servants'. I would go back in a minute!

The accomodations are very spacious, each with its own kitchen. The breakfast tray they bring on the first day (consisting of fruits, cereals, jams, butter, eggs, milk, coffee, and tea) is more then enough for two days and gets replenished on the third day. Guests also receive a complimentary bottle of the estate wine and a box of cookies. It is advisable to keep the windows closed during the summer evenings as mosquitoes there are vicious. While there is no a/c, the pool is heavenly. ... Dude, it's really freakin' cool.

Castello Vicchiomaggio is a wonderful place to visit. We stayed four days and wished we could have stayed longer. The gardens, pool and views are wonderful. It is in a great location to drove s222 around Chianti and visit the wineries. The room included a furnished kitchen with basic food items to get you through breakfast the first morning, large updated bath, AC, bottle of wine. We have stayed in many wonderful hotels but this is a respite from the world (but with access to it). Wonderful location for day trips to Florence and other parts of Tuscany. We will return. Carolyn

It was not statet clearly that we were supposed to clean the apartment after the usage but that was not a problem.
We were never provided with the pool towels so that was a bit of a dissapointment.
It would be nice if the pool could be used also in the evenings.
... It was very beautiful. The location was perfect! and the scenery was very beautiful.
I would highly recommend Castello Vicchiomaggio to anybody!

We came in late, after normal business hours, and a really nice girl met us at the bus stop to take us back to the castle without our asking her to. The receptionist, 'weekend Cristina,' was delightful and knowledgable. ... Everyone was helpful and supportive, from assisting one of us who discovered her charge cards and money had earlier been stolen in Rome, to finding a cork screw, to determining how to return our rental car in confusing Florence. ... Providing us with additional literature about the castle to bring home to friends and again their assistance in calling Hertz rental to determine how to best return our car in Florence were especially helpful. ... I took pictures to show others - which I used before returning home with some strangers we met on the train going from Venice to Florence.

Difficult to get access to the 'free cellar tour' because of the high volume of pre-booked bus tours that frequent the facilities. ... No check out needed - just left the key on the wall near the gate on the way out - easy. ... No laundry facilities - even in a two bedroom apartment with kitchen. We had assumed that there would be but were surprised to be referred to the laundry service in Greve (4km away). ... A great location, fantastic views, good accommodation and beautiful grounds - but you really must have a car to use this as your base (we did).

Very good. We did get lost. We past Greve in Chiante, but eventually found it after understanding the route markers ... Very nice and quiet. Rooms were spacious. ... If you could just add a little more detail on how to find your location. We just did not expect to be at the end of a curve. ... Beautiful and relaxing. I have recommended Tuscany.net especially Castello Vicchiomaggio because it is near Firenze to everyone I have had the delight to describe our vacation in Europe.

Castello very difficult to get to by Bus particularly on a Sunday. There are 2 bus stops with same name on different roads. The one nearest to Castello has very few buses going by (min 2 hours between services) ... Great place but car is needed to get around and that adds to the cost. Bus services are poor in area.

On our fist day of arrival, we were put in a room without air conditioning which was requested. In speaking with a few other guests that we had met, some rooms weren't equiped with AC either. These other guests were not happy about this as well. However, I'd like to add that the staff moved us after our first night into a room with AC for the remainder of our stay. Other than that our rooms were very pleasent.
Also, something that can be improved at the accomodation would be to add additional chairs and lounge beds around the pool. A few were broken and people would reserve the few that there was, early in the morning with towels therefore, if you came later in the day there were no loungers left to use. The public bathroom around the pool area was also very dirty. ... Lovely accomodation worth visiting.

It is a beautiful place. The rooms are spacious and clean. The views of the Chianti country were excellent. We were led to believe that they do wine tours everyday. When we got there, they told us they only do them once a week and that it was fully booked. It was dissapointing.

I had read on a website about tour buses coming to the castle. When I emailed about it they replied, what you mean tour buses? But upon arriving there was a small bus on site. Numerous people wandering around the property and courtyard sipping wine. One woman even followed the maid and us up to our apartment. I don't know where she thought she was going-maybe to the bathroom? (If guests have any handicap and can't carry own luggage forget this apt. From the parking area-drag luggage around pea-gravel courtyard and up about 18 stairs) Inform guests- first floor in Italy means second floor.
... We expected and anticipated wine tasting and a tour. The wine shop opened late and was not ready for us the day we stopped. The place was a mess apparently from the day before. Even though I emailed a couple times about tours they said we could arrange it when we got there. The tours were only Mon. eve. we left Mon. am.so we never got a tour of our own place! ... Beautiful setting Would have liked the advantage of having vineyard tour and winetasting right on site...which was one reason I chose this site. After the fact she said we didn't have to be out by 9am which was stated and printed precisely! Road workers worked on the driveway. They started early Mon. am so we couldn't have slept anyway! ... Our first evening dinner we asked right away to be moved to another dining area since it was terribly noisy in the ballroom dining area. Another table joined us in the smaller dining room. A screaming, misbehaving child and another table with a rowdy birthday party made the room echoe. Your first morning is covered with in room eggs ( 4 eggs for 3 people (6 would have been more appropriate), milk, butter, cereals and packaged breads and jams. We had no service so you need to plan ahead for groceries. No dishwasher so need to do them yourself :( You need to do them for check out or be charged. If there's an event scheduled, plan on a busy, noisy time of it. Luckily, the wedding was over by 10:30pm on Sunday. I can't imagine trying to get dinner at the restaurant when there's an event! It is too far of a bother to comfortably drive to Pisa for a day trip. We should have stayed in Florence one more evening and headed to Pisa from there. ... The setting is awesome. If there were more services and no buses or events you'd truly feel like a king and queen in your castle. I wish we could have tried the wine and toured the vineyard that's why we came. The pool was fabulous but the water was too cold the days we were there to use it. PLEASE ADD TO YOUR REVIEW CATAGORIES-FIRST NAME AND LOCATION. I found it helpful in reading reviews to see where the person was from.

Evening meal was expensive for what was essentially trattoria standard food rather than 'gourmet' as advertised. The wine tasting as part of this meal was also disappointing and could have been more in-depth to fully appreciate the essence of the wine on offer. The seating plan and environment could also have been improved upon. ... There was no actual check out procedure as such other than key leaving because all was dealt with in a perfunctorary manner on arrival.
