 In our property there are 2 swimming pools: one swimming pool is 8 mts x 14 mts umbrellas, the other is a round size swimming pool with a beautiful view : both are furnished with beds and umbrellas. A children play area with wooden plays, sldes etc... A good Trattoria called "Trattoria dal Contadino" is placed on the middle of the farm. |
 Restaurant: Our restaurant will serve you genuine and simple dishes of tuscan cooking tradition... fresh pastas with wild boar or hare sauce, the famous bread soup "Ribollita" and "Pappa al pomodoro, our special "spelt soup"; roast and grilled meat: the famous "bistecca alla fiorentina" ; the desserts made with care. History of Impruneta
Impruneta and the surrounding area, belonged to Buondelmonti family since X century. This family had a very important role in the warfull politics of medieval Florence.
Impruneta have a very old tradition about terracotta jar, brick and tiles and other religious little statues. You can visit some of furnaces and it's very interesting to see how they made tipycal imprunetan's decoration pot.
In Impruneta's furnaces have been made the roof tiles of the Florence's Dome.
Impruneta have a famous ancient cathedral with a famous pictures of Virgin Mary. In the main square, every year, on 18th of October there is a big weekly fair.
Basilica di Santa Maria dell'Impruneta
During the 14th century the Church Santa Maria turned from parish church into sanctuary. In that period was reconstructed on the model of the other Tuscan churches, that is to say, big spaces in order to host the numerous pilgrims. In this picture, we can see the minor cloister, built during the Renaissance
In the inside of the church there is a long aisle of 50 mt and at the end a presbytery. Behind the high altar there is an elegant pentagonal apse. Lateral to the presbytery there are two beautiful aedicules by Michelozzo. The wood truss ceiling is original of 14th century, reconstructed from 1944 to 1950.
The sacred icon of Maria was perhaps painted by Luca the Evangelist, but there aren't written documents that affirm this. The underground discovery of the Icon was drawn up in the 14th century and the first documents on the foundation of the church go back to the 11th century. The aedicule on the left houses the Venerated Image of the Madonna. On the external fronton there is a polychrome terracotta frieze, with leaf and fruit ornaments; in the centre is a Madonna with Child by Luca Della Robbia (1400/1482), who also decorated the ceiling of the aedicule. The fronton, the ceiling and both aedicules were rebuilt after bombing in 1944. You can reach the church on foot (20 minutes) or by car 3 minutes
