No actual directions once in the town. Noone to greet us at place with no message of what to do.

No instructions about where to leave keys or rubbish. Could do with a little information book on the essentials within the house.

Comfortable apartment in centre of old town. Beautiful views of countryside out window and fabulous cobbled streets to wander through outside front door. Quintessential Tuscany.

I didn't get the directions before we left for Italy. We drove to Tuscany, then called the telephone number from the town before Colle val d'Elsa. The man told us to drive to the tourist office in the town. When we arrived, the woman had no idea who we were. Apparently we were supposed to go to the tourist office in the historical center. There is no way we could have known how to get there. Sra. Carla, however, showed up very shortly and then took very, very good care of us.

I'm very happy for this opportunity to tell you how well Sra. Carla took care of us. The apartment we rented was even more beautiful than it appeared on the web site. It was clear that she (or someone) had worked very hard to prepare for our arrival. There were crystal glasses in the kitchen. I'd swear the linens were hand-embroidered and pressed. Sra. Carla found us at breakfast to see how we faired. Unfortunately, the apartment was next door to the church, and the bell rang all night, so we asked her to move us to a quieter apartment. She did so right away. Unfortunately, since she was not expecting guests in that apartment, she did not have the opportunity to prepare for us as she had in the previous apartment, but it was perfectly adequate. One thing I would mention is that although the bathroom in the second apartment looks clean, when you're in the apartment for a period of time, you notice an odor. It probably needs a once- over with bleach. Other than that, it could not have been better. Thank you so much for a remarkable vacation experience.

Apartment 4 is right next to the church tower and bell. To some people that might add charm, but for sensitive sleepers like us, that was an impossibility. I didn't know that the town was known for its crystal and glass blowing. It's a haven for artists, too, and apartment 4 is right across the alley from the art museum. While we were there it was open all night long, and we got to meet the featured artist. There was a festival while we were there celebrating the bottling of the new wine right after the harvest and chestnut season. Wish we'd known about that so that we could have planned to attend. World-class restaurant a short walk from our door.

Since our return, I've told my friends of being overcome by the sense of history in Colle val d'Elsa. And barely a blurb in the travel guide books. When we opened our bedroom window on the first morning, there was a Tuscan landscape any painter would have worked his whole life to create. As much as anything, I was impressed with how well we were treated. The Italian people are kind, generous, respectful, and protective of their guests.

The only thing we were unhappy with is that we had to call the owner and then find out that we had to get the keys to the apartment from the tourist office which if we were any later it would have been closed.The web site did'nt mention that! But the website is very user friendly and I enjoyed useing the site. Thanks John Baldassari

No one to meet us when we arrived and no one to meet us when we checked outwhich was fine but we did'nt have those little details given to us when we booked this property,but we were left alone and not bothered at all. Very nice.

Our only concern was how to get to the tourist info office. Although we had the adress, we had no map of Colle Va D'Elsa and didn't know which way to turn when we got off the bus. Nor did we know if we could walk or needed a taxi or city bus. Fortunately there was one taxi in the piazza and he knew the address. Once at the office - the receptionist was exceptinally helpful and friendly.

We have a wonderful stay - had only intended on 3 days but extended it to 5 days. The apartment was clean and had all that we had expected.

The tourist office hours were a bit of a concern, but the staff were more than accommodating. When we extended our stay - we stopped by the next day to pay for the extra nights - but the office was closed. We didn't want to lose a day of sightseeing by waiting for it to re-open at 12:00. When we did not pay until the following day when were checking out -they were quite alright about it.

How exactly the key is to be picked up and a contact if arrival is after the tourist office is closed. Had I not had access to the internet while in Florence - I would have had no idea how to get to our apartment in Colle Va D'Elsa. The email explaining that we needed to call an hour before arriving to Colle - was sent after we had left the States and were in italy.

The apartment was small but quaint and had all that we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with plates and cooking pans etc. Made it easy and fun to cook in - a nice change from eating out all of the time. It was in a beautiful setting. Being centrally located between Siena, Florence San Gimmignagno etc. made it a perfect place to set down and use as a base. Plus, Colle itself is a beautiful village to visit in and of itself. We would stay there again and recommend it to friends! We already have.

It was not quite clear to us that we had to address to the local tourist office when we came. When we arrived we dropped in there to ask for the road and we were a bit supprised to hear the lady bihind the counter say: 'Oh, your must be mr. puijk, welcome.'

Even though the sun was burning and temperatures were high outside, we had agreeable temperature inside.

Unfortunately the person we arranged to meet was late and we waited in Colle Val D'elsa Arnolfo square for over an hour. Eventually I had to ring the contact number again using our mobile (which would be quite expensive)to find out when she would be arriving. When the contact person eventually arrived she was extremely polite and helpful.

One of the pull out beds did not appear to have been cleaned (it had hair on it). Since it was a five bed apartment and there were only four of us we managed. Otherwise there could have been a problem. The apartment was spotless in every other area and basic provisions (such as coffee, detergent, etc) were provided). The town exceeded my expectations and we loved it. The apartment was extremely private and had great views of the vally below.

We left the key on the kitchen table as requested so experienced no problems.

The dining room seemed bigger on the photo, tha in reality, but no problem.

The parking in the outside private parking should be mentioned (where there is no guard, even no illuminated).

As we'd had no information about needing to make special arrangements, we expected someone to be at the flat to meet us. This wasn't the case.
Instead, I phoned the telephone number on the confirmation doc and was told to go to the tourist office.

Again, no instructions provided. So we locked up and left the key on the kitchen table.

A permit is available from the owner that allows a car to be driven close to the apartment.
Alternatively, it's possible to park in the new town and get an escalator to the old town. this takes you very close to the apartment.
If we had known about the above prior to arriving, we would have been spared a long walk, dragging our cases.
