even though we were late arriving and arrived at around 10pm we were still made to feel very welcome , as it was a private apartment, someone had to come from their home to meet us with the keys and they still had a smile for us.

No washing and ironing facilities. The family have a villa 15 min walk downhill where you can go for breakfast, there is also a swimming pool there that you can use.

I have reccomended the apartment to my friends in australia and scotland as it was a great place to stay. Great views of the square. The owners also have a villa just down the road about 15 min walk. we stayed there for our last 2 nights for a change as we had 5 nights in the apartment. The villa was fantastic and the family were very nice . They have their own vineyards and the wine and homecooked food is superb.

I inquired ahead of time about mode of payment for balance that was acceptable because I read a review of the place that complained that credit cards were not accepted. I was assured by email that credit cards would be accepted, but when we arrived, they told us that in order to pay the balance by credit card, we would have to go to their offices which were not in town and they would have to keep our passports until we did so. Not wanting to be deprived of our passports, we ended up paying in cash, but were lucky that we had enough on us at the time without preparing for it. They should have told us this ahead of time, particularly since I emailed them specifically to inquire about it to make sure we would travel with enough funds.

Unbelievably beautiful Tuscan countryside views from an ancient Palazzo smack in the middle of San Gigmignano with appropriate antique furnishings and ample-sized rooms. Lots of stairs to climb, but that's expected given the nature of the place.

No reception when we arrived. We had to go next door to another hotel reception to have them call the Palazzo Tortoli contact number so staff could drive to our site for registration.
Instructions did not state that Palazzo Tortoli did not have 'front desk' but that we had to call to arrange for someone to meet us outside Palazzo Tortoli locked entryway.

Was not sure that room had been properly cleaned . It just may have been the age of the facility, but both my wife and I had the impression that (for instance) the floor was dirty.

Was simply asked to leave key in room when we departed for next desitination. I had the impression that we were expected to clean the room before we left, as a sign in room implied

View from our room od Palazzo Della Cisterna was spectacular and should be added to websire information.
A caution that would be good to add is that the room IS on the plazza so expect late evening and early morning traffic and crowd noise.

Very historic, very romantic, VERY convenient...but VERY hard mattress.
