Profile

Halfway between Florence and Siena , in the middle of the beautiful Chianti countryside, in an area rich in events from the Etruscan and Roman period, lies "La Canonica di Cortine". This property stands on the summit of a hill among vineyards, olive groves and woods on the watershed of the Elsa and Pesa valleys.

Here the silent magic treasure of a thousand years of collaboration between the generous soil and extraordinary line of descendants is preserved. Here, following the flight of a falcon in the sky, you may recognise the green hills painted by the Renaissance masters, and when you wish to join the pleasure of the eye with the delight of the spirit the traditional food and the miraculous wine of this land can only be unequalled guides for you!

History

La Canonica di Cortine is part of the historic village of Cortine, which was an important meeting point between Florence and the Via Francigena for Rome. It lies very near the scene of the deadly duel between the council powers of Florence and the aristocratic pride of Semifonte. In 1260 the people of Cortine donated a high quantity of their precious grain to support the Florentine army during the Monteaperti campaign.

Surrounded by stone walls and flowering hedges this group of houses and a villa provides the perfect holiday residence.
The main Villa was part of the original Castle of Cortine built in 1037.

AN ELEGANT B& B.

Immersed in the property lies a large antique construction recently restored, surrounded by a lovely garden. This building on two floors is called "Torre Vecchia" and in the past it was used as farmhouse, servant quarters and probably was also the guard tower for the castle.

The atmosphere of long ago has been created through careful restoration, maintenance of original colour, selection of appropriate furniture and the use of well-chosen fabrics in cretonne, linen and cotton. All these details show the building has been furnished with quality and taste.
Torre Vecchia and also all the property is a delightful step into the past with all the added modern conveniences and luxuries of today.

Entering the main door you come to the hall. Accurate restoration, the well-chosen antique furniture and care of small details are the main characteristics of the property. The living room with the original fireplace and the sofa create a warm and familiar atmosphere of the past when farmers at the end of a long and hard day of work gathered around the fireplace speaking and drink a good a glass of wine.

The breakfast room furnished with elegant tables and flowering patterns fabrics are characteristics of Tuscan houses. On the ground floor there is the first bedroom. You can reach the others on the first floor through a stairs in travertine. A very old arch which preserves its originality welcome you at the end of the stairs and allows you enter the corridor where there are 4 pleasant and well furnished bedrooms.
