Castello di Tignano, Apartment, Chianti Classico, Tuscany

The Tignano Castle is built on a hill at 334m, and has a typical circular structure of a fortified village. There is only one entrance to the village and nearby, there is an ancient water cistern and the 14th century 'Palazzo dei Begliuomini'.

The apartments, completely restored and furnished with originality, are
situated in the central main square of Tignano. Provided with every kind of comfort, they have a small private garden surrounded by a low stonewall and a laurel hedge and look over a marvellous olive-grove, the typical Tuscan cultivation.

In summertime many traditional village feasts take place in the surrounding area. In July, the central square of Tignano becomes the scene for the prestigious music festival "Notti Musicali nel Castello".

From the village of Tignano there are many
interesting excursions, walking or cycling tours through which you can explore the surrounding area. You can also quickly reach by car other quaint villages such as Tavarnelle, Castellina in Chianti, the romantic parish of Sant' Appiano and the famous Badia a Passignano.

History of Tignano Castle

Many archaeological finds have been discovered in the territory around Tignano. In the year 1000 there was a little village and later, in
12th Century, Alberti Count's castle was built to create a defensive wedge between the cities of Florence and Siena, the two major medieval antagonists in the Tuscany Region.

During the 13th century, Tignano became part of Florentine Republic and took part in the war against Uberti family from Arezzo in Gargonza. It appears that famous exiled poet Dante was in Gargonza during this siege.

Tignano is also famous for the
many well-known, powerful Florentine individuals born here: Feo Bonino da Tignano, Ser Martino Tancredi da Tignano, Ser Bartolo di Ser Bonaiuto da Tignano, just to name a few.
