Tenuta la Pieve lies on the gentle hills which face the valley separating Valdarno, Valdichiana and Valdambra at the same distance from Florence, Siena and Arezzo. Its original group building goes back to 1250 AD and it was erected within a fortified area named "Castello della Pieve" as already mentioned and drawn in the captains cartographies, when Ser Ristoro, the leader of that family who was later named Serristori, was uncharged with the running of estates with vines and olive-trees belonging to the Diocesi of Badia Agnano. |
During July 1554AD the castle was ravaged and burnt down by the troops of Piero Strozzi, banished from Florence and allied with Siena and with the King of France. The castle was then rebuilt but it lost its military purpose. Inside it was finely renovated by expert craftsmen and outside a beautiful Italian garden which is now surrounded by laurel hedges was added. At the end of 1770AD, a panoramic terrace was finished and it overlooks the fields and the valleys which are full of vines and olive trees. |
The farm on the grounds has been producing extra virgin olive oil for years, giving maximum attention to biological cultivation techniques. Five old farmhouses named Casale La Valle, Casale Presciano, Casale Il Giglio, Casale il Loggiato and Cottage il Noce, located on the land of the Estate La Pieve have been recently charmingly restored. |
