The Villa S. Andrea farm extends over 1300 acres of Chianti Classico territory in Tuscany, Italy. At the heart of the farm is the ancient hamlet of Fabbrica; here the main Villa, the church of S.Andrea, the wine cellars and the oil press are all located. The farm offers accommodation in either Bed & Breakfast rooms in the hamlet itself, or in apartments in one of the three farmhouses immersed in the countryside. |
The name "Fabbrica" is derived from the Latin faber, which means "artisan" or "craftsman". In fact, the area has a long history of craftsmanship, for this is where the forges were located that supplied weapons for the Roman army. The Villa itself sits on the ruins of a castle built in the 11th century by the Florentine Buondelmonti family. |
It's situated on a hill covered with olive trees and vineyards, dominant on Pesa Valley and near to the historic abbey of Badia a Passignano. The sun-drenched hills around the farm that are higher than 820 feet are covered with vineyards more than 125 acres, in fact! And about 100 of those acres are registered as DOCG, or Denominazione Origine Controllata Garantita, a mark of Chianti Classico wines of the region. |
The farm is also part of the "Fabbrica Santa Cristina" animal reserve, which means outdoor lovers will find so much to do in this beautiful and relatively untouched landscape. If you enjoy hiking or bicycling, you'll find a forest of oak, holm oak, acacia, and cypress trees nearby, as well as picturesque pastures where you'll encounter the wild animals of the region. |
