Set on it's own hilltop overlooking one of the most breathtaking views of the Tuscan landscape, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, the Villa of San Filippo near Barberino Val d'Elsa is the ideal retreat for anyone interested in enjoying the various aspects for which Tuscany is famous: it's history, culture and culinary traditions, combined with genuine and friendly care for its guests. The villa has been recently converted into 21 beautiful suites and apartments. Great care has been taken to cater for modern day requirements without spoiling the original atmosphere of the ancient country mansion.... |
The apartments are self catering and can accommodate from 2 to 6 people. However there is also a private restaurant set in the magnificent "Orangey" overlooking the Italian Garden and a wine bar for snacks and drinks on the panoramic main terrace. Three swimming pools built into the lower terraces, water falling one into the other, make it seem like you are literally swimming into the landscape around. The nearby horse riding school will lead you through relaxing itineraries along the typical white stone pathways of Chianti which join the picturesque villages of Sant'Appiano, San Martino Ai Colli and the Sosta del Papa (the Pope's rest) along the ancient pilgrim route of the Via Francigena. |
A word about the restaurant facilities. Our chef PierAngelo, prominent member of the "Slow- food" Organisation, has dedicated his life's work to maintaining the traditions of the Tuscan cuisine. Tradition follows closely the passing of the seasons and the wonderful products and fruits of the land. Each course is prepared, with a great attention to local ingredients and savoured with olive oil actually produced here at San Filippo. We cater for guests requiring Bed & Breakfast or Half Board as well as providing normal restaurant services. |
Buffet breakfasts, of Tuscan style, light lunches and snacks, are served in the breakfast hall and on the terrace and dinner in the restaurant itself. We are also specialised in wedding banquets (we have our own artistic pastry chef, Roxana, for superb wedding cakes). Also bear in mind the nearby exquisite 10th century church of Sant'Appiano for the ceremony itself. |
From San Filippo it is very easy to get to Florence (25 minutes), Siena (20 minutes) and many other historical towns of Tuscany ( the towers of San Gimignano are visible from here!) with their famous works of Art, squares shops and boutiques. San Filippo is also very central for contemporary Art Lovers, with many Art parks and galleries well worth a visit. |
