| Five kilometers far from the Residenza del Borgo there is Sinalunga, where you can find many super-markets, retaurants, shops of typical products, bars, an old and very nice theatre and a cinema. On tuesday morning there is an outdoor market where you can find everything: clothes, shoes, food as cheese, fresh fish, fruit and so on. Montepulciano and Pienza are the most famous towns of the senese area, thirty kilometers far from Scrfiano. In both towns there are nice churches to visit, small squares, and many shops where tasting typical products as the Pecorino cheese of Pienza. Pio II, the main square of Pienza, contains the Cathedral and Palazzo Piccolomini. The town's main axis is Corso Rossellino, lined with house built by the nobility in thr 14th century. Montepulciano is well-known because in its area is produced the wine called "Rosso of Montepulciano".The old center of the town it's full of small cellars and shops where you can taste or buy this kind of wine.The town is said to have been founded by the Etruscan King Porsenna and exhibits impressive archtecture. Many important artists worked here in the past. The most famous monument of Montepulciano is the temple of San Biagio. Not far from Scrofiano, about 15 kilometers, there is Rapolano Terme an important spa town. Here you can relax yourself, getting a massage or swimming in the thermal pool. Another city to visit is Siena (about 40 kilometers) with its Piazza del Campo, the Torre del Mangia, the Duomo and the church of San Domenico. Twice a year, in summer, there is the Palio, an horse race whose origins belong to the past, famous all over the world. From Scrofiano Siena can be easily reach by car, train and bus.Then there are Cortona, a beautiful town chosen by the most important film directors to set their films, Montalcino and Trequanda. |
