Poggio Capponi is along the Via Volterrana, (part of the Via Francigena which runs past Timignano and Volterra into the Maremma) and now the Colli Fiorentini and Colli Senese Medicei wine road, running past Monteriggioni and on to Siena. Numerous marked walking and riding routes run through fabulous countryside. There are excellent main roads nearby, with Florence 20 minutes away and Pisa and other major towns within easy reach.
Poggio Capponi has real natural and artistic treasures in its surroundings: Montespertoli, with its jolly Wine Festival, green hills and Museum of Sacred Art. Montelupo, with the Museum of Ceramics that safeguards over 3000 pieces of rare beauty. Artimino, famous for its Etruscan archaeological site and Medicean villa. Certaldo, hometown of Giovanni Boccaccio, where you will be able to visit his home. Vinci, hometown of Leonardo¸ where you may visit the museum dedicated to him. Castelfiorentino, with the magnificent paintings by Benozzo Gozzoli. |
