Profile |
The 600 year old estate Poggio alla Fame is located at 1500mt from the center of the medioeval town of Colle di Val d'Elsa, between Florence, Siena and San Gimignano, in a very panoramic, quiet, beautifully located position at the top of its private Chianti hill.
In November 1479, Duke Alfonso of Calabria called our hill "Poggio alla Fame" (Knoll of Hunger) due to an affront received by a lady of extraordinary beauty, Ada de Montereggi. |
But the name could not be less appropriate, as its slopes are covered with luxuriant vines and olive, pear, apple and peach trees, and permanently lodge foxes, porcupines, squirrels, hedgehogs, pheasants and hares. |
Its wines and oil are renowned throughout Europe. Our guests may enjoy 30,000 sqm of medow land, 20,000 of woods and 4,000 sqm of Italian garden with private swimming-pool and tennis court. |
