In 1999, we stayed at this hotel one night and promised ourselves to come back for a longer stay. The photos could never capture the wonderful atmosphere. The addition of air coditioning was very useful in August!
...
The hotel could automate this process a bit. It seemed to take a while to check out but this is not a big enough problem to discourage me from returning.
...
A beautiful rustic Tuscany Villa with, charm, character, and a tremendous view of the countryside surrounding Sienna. A great headquarters to use as a base to take day trips to Florence and other towns in the region.
We will return.

The Hotel was nice, but not as polished or service-oriented as we expected. They could take some extra measures to clean up the facility and provide sincere service.
...
The views are terrific and the location was great. The Hotel could use come maintenance and the breakfast was pretty bland.
...
It is a quiet, old Hotel with great views. If you are looking for a no-thrills kind of place, this is it.

Absolutely a beatiful tuscan hotel. If you are going to Tuscany to experience tuscan living than this hotel is perfect. It has a beautiful view from the room. The staff was helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I would go back to this hotel anytime.

We had a lovely view of the Tuscan countryside from our bedroom window. The hotel was very quiet, in spite of being so close to town - it was possible to walk to the centre in 20 minutes. The staff were extremely helpful - especially with indicating good places to eat. Breakfast was rather 'maigre' - fresh croissants would have been appreciated instead of packaged! We would stay there again.

The hotel is not clearly signed at the roadside, and we drove past it not seeing the sign on the wall.
Reception is on first floor, there is no lift, there was no offer to help with baggage.
...
Staff all speak excellent English and always helpful with advice about travel, sights, amenities etc.
Breakfast was not very good, after 6 nights we definitely needed a change - a buffet, and better crockery, would be much better.
There is a bus into town; we thought it would be a nice gesture if the hotel bought and gave us complimentary tickets.
...
Still no offer to help with baggage.

Reception is on first floor, there is no lift.

Good out-of-central-town base for Sienna and the area. Walk into town centre for shops, sightseeing and restaurants perfectly possible, but hard work in hot weather.
Excellent views of the Tuscan countryside.

Wonderful views from the bedroom window across the rolling countryside.
...
It's a gentle downhill stroll back from the centre of Siena, the short and frequent bus journey is recommended for the inward journey, tickets need to be bought in advance from the local tobacconist shop. Also, the local Bar (a short walk on the right as you head into town)& local Restaurant (again a short walk on the left as you head into town)are both worth a visit.
...
Ideally situated as it's generally quiet with beautiful views, whilst giving easy access to the town centre.

More detailed instructions are needed on the directions. Explain that Siena Sud comes after...on the highway. Explain that the road that the hotel is on leads up to Porta Romana and to the walls of the city and that if they reach the walls they have gone too far...explain that the hotel is outside the city walls.
...
The breakfasts were poor compared to other hotels we visited in Tuscany and Umbria. It would not cost the hotel that much to improve their offerings to include yogurt, some fresh fruit, cereals. That is a real weakness of the hotel. They also should invest in a picnic table to have on their terrace.
...
You should talk to the owner of the hotel about enlarging the entrance gate (widening it). It is very difficult for a foreigner to maneuver through that gate off a busy road.
...
I would tell her the same things I told you regarding directions, breakfasts, entrance gate.

The Hotel Palazzo di Valii was a wonderful experience. I traveled with two other friends and we had two rooms. They were both clean and comfortable. The Tuscan views were amazing. The bus to Siena picked us up just a few yards from the entrance to the drive. Just be sure to get your bus tickets before boarding. We would have walked, but it's all uphill into town, so we walked back to the hotel at the end of the day. Our stay at this hotel really made our visit to Siena memorable.
A couple of things could be improved: The benches on the property need to be repaired or replaced. The shower stall in our room was tiny, but that was a common experience in our travels and stays at different locations in Tuscany.
...
This property sits at the end of a long drive. It has Olive trees and lavendar growing on the grounds. The property was orignially owned by relations of Pope Pius the II, and one room was stated to have been the room he actually stayed in when visiting Siena. Rooms on the upstairs floor are most desirable to take full advantage of the amazing views.

The lack of air conditioning surprisingly did not bother us. We were very pleased by the view of the fields behind us. The hotel keepers were very helpful and we both enjoyed the breakfast. At first, we were concerned about it being outside the city walls. But it turned out making a very nice walk for us.

Hotel Palazzo di Valli is a peaceful getaway that offers the freedom to wander into Siena or to simply relax. The views are beautiful and the hosts are very informative. The hotel is very near to a supermarket, bus line, and tabacci shops. The hotel itself is very well maintained.

The only lack was of outside seating.
The garden is potentially beautiful, but they have not had time to devote to it yet.
A few comfortable chairs under the olive trees would have made all the difference to us after a days sightseeing.

The hotel gardens were lovely and we had a wonderful view of the Tuscan countryside from our room. The pictures on the website dont do it justice!

The hotel does not provide any services - if you want to have drinks in the garden you will have to bring your own drinks and blanket to sit on!
...
The hotel has no dining or coffeeshop facilites, however there is a restaurant/trattoria just across the street with very good food and moderate prices.

Very nice, quiet and pleasant stay. Hotel was very close to Valli amenities, but set back a good distamce from the road so no traffic could be heard. Lovely views from the terrace and garden. The floors in the room could have been cleaner. Although the hotel was generally quiet, the staff went out partying on one of the nights of our stay (night of May 1) and they came home late and woke us up. They need to realize that in that old manor home, noise travels and echoes throughout the place.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
...
The hotel was adequate for our one night stay. It was within easy walking distance of Siena centre which was our principle requirement. However, the bathroom smelled a little of bad drains, and although the hotel itself was in a quiet district, we found you could hear every creak and movement, such as water in pipes, other guests, etc, during the night. The hotel also seemed to be in the middle of a refurbishment so parts of it looked more complete than others.
...
Positive - It has an off road position that made the hotel surroundings very quiet.

Negative - due to refurbishment it looks a little unfinished.

More like a converted private farmhouse than a conventional hotel. Quite charming and unique (even a little eccentric), with friendly and helpful staff. We think the website should be more clear about how far the accomodation is from the town center. It is not within walking distance. The website should explain which city bus (and where to find that bus) runs to the stop closest to Palazzo di Valli. We walked from Piazza Gramsci (where the SITA bus dropped us off) to Palazzo di Valli with all of our bags and it took about an hour.
...
We would describe it as a nice accomodation but inconvenient for those relying on public transportation.

...
Improve the breakfast! Rolls in plastic bags at a B&B are not welcome. We found fresh baked goods for sale at the bar just a few doors down the street - why not offer such at the hotel? Not to over state the negative here, it was just a bit more in 'antique' condition overall than the description implied, but all was clean and functioning.
...
Fine.
...
Parking is fine and free, it's quiet compared to staying downtown. There's a public bus stopping in front of the property that will take you downtown & back at low cost with little hassle.
...
Good value - peacefully away from the tourist crowds in the city, and looking out the window you can 'pretend' you are staying in a Tuscan villa, albeit one of faded glory.

An okay place to stay outside the southern part of Siena. Better signage on the road would help. Front desk guy was not that friendly. An easy cab ride from 'downtown' Siena. Was a good choice for us because we wanted a place to park the car without having to deal with driving through Siena. Good views, fairly poor bathroom.

My only comment would be that the property should provide some time of self service tea/coffee service in the afternoon/evening hours. Even if they want to charge for it, although every other place we stayed in Italy offered this as a complimentary service which we thought was very nice. Other than that, we were very happy with our stay.

The directions should make clear that the hotel is not easily spotted from the road. It is marked only by a small sign on a stone wall. The hotel itself is set well back from the road -- and does not look like a hotel. We found it only by using the number in the address.

In general, the rooms and building were as described and were generally beautiful. However, there was no air conditioning in my Mother's room, which was quite disappointing and does not equate to 'all of the comforts that you'll need' (or similar language) contained on the website. Also, at times, no one was available at the desk to help us. Lastly, while we otherwise REALLY enjoyed the Palazzo and would be interested in staying again, we were VERY DISAPPOINTED in the breakfast which was simply breads, butter and jams. In contrast, in almost every other place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Italy (approximately 7 places in total), we enjoyed at least cereal, yogurt and fresh fruit in addition to the breads and in the more preferred places (even those with similar prices to the Palazzo), we also enjoyed cheeses and meats. Moreover, the crouscants were individually packaged and did not taste fresh like other hotels. We'd recoommend an upgrades to the breakfast and adding a portable air conditioner to the room missing it.

My husband and I loved the hotel. During our trip to Italy the Hotel Palazzo di Vali was the nicest of all the hotels we stayed in. hotel not well sign posted at all - only a pale marble enscribed plaque on the wall on what looked to be a normal residential house - must of wasted at least an hour going around Siena looking for it!! very very narrow access to it luckily we only had a small car.
