Once we found the hotel it was easy. We missed the turn (we hear we weren't the first) and wound up taking a self-tour of Castiglione d' Orcia up the hill a couple of miles. When we got back on track it became easier. But be warned. The sign indicating the road to the hotel is set back from the main road and seems to point crossways toward an unidentified building instead of toward the hotel. The road is more like a driveway straight in. A friendly dog greeted us when we got there. Parking was no problem. ... Simone (host person) was wonderful about recommending places to eat, places to visit --and suggested the most charming winery tour that we had ever experienced. She was attentive, outgoing, and personable. ... No problem! ... The location is beautiful. The grounds are lovely. Quiet and picturesque. There are only 14 rooms so it almost feels like a B&B. The breakfast was abundant and Simone fixed my husband and me the most delicious hot chocolate we have ever tasted.
If you like to use washcloths, though, bring your own. We only stayed in one hotel (not the Osteria) out of seven, that provided a face washcloth. Most don't even know what you're talking about. ... Ohmigosh! The best! Best rate, best facility, just perfect. Wish we had spent much more time there. (Except for the plug-in-the-wall air freshener - which, once we discovered what was causing the somewhat overpowering scent in the room, we unplugged and it was fine.)
