Profile

The 4 star hotel Osteria dell'Orcia dates back to the 1600’s and is located on the old consular road that is presumed to have been constructed on top of a stretch of the "Via Francigena". It is situated in the middle of the countryside in the heart of the "Val d’Orcia", one of Tuscany’ s most suggestive and uncontaminated valleys. At that time, it was used as a post station.

The old horse-drawn carriages entered through the center main entrance to be replaced, while the travellers went upstairs to the top floor where they found the kitchen and a spacious hall used as a dormitory.

At the end of 1800’s, when the bridge fell, it could no longer fuifill its function as an inn and was madde over into a rurali house. It was then abandoned in the 1950’s and fell into ruin. At the end of thew 1900’s, it was
restructured in full observance of the original design but with attention devoted to offering comfort to the demanding tourist of today.
