We had a long drive and I called ahead of time to warn them of our late arrival (11:30 pm) but they were very understanding. ... We thought the hotel, the room and the personal attention was excellent --- top notch. Our 2 year old son was sick, but they were very accomodating and we felt comfortable asking for things (i.e. utensils to eat in our room) because they were so receptive and helpful. ... I found the atmosphere to be very warm, exclusive and inviting --- it is difficult to convey these feelings on a website, because they are just words. ... Very cute hotel with a gentle, helpful staff located conveniently in the nice town of Montalchino. I will most definitely recommend the hotel/city to anyone who is looking for a nice, quiet place to go in Italy. We stayed at three different hotels in Italy and Hotel Vecchia Oliviera was by far the best experience we had.

I think more hotels can still be added especially in towns like San Gimignano, Lucca, and Volterra. ... We enjoyed our stay at Vecchia Oliviera tremendously and would definitely stay there again. ... Maybe more detailed descriptions of the hotel's interiors (i.e. lobby, rooms, library). ... A charming and comfortable hotel with great views and a friendly and accommodating staff.

The owner was very charming and helpful throughout my stay and arranged for taxi for a winery tour, helped me locate restaurants, etc. ... I love this hotel. the single room has a gateonto the back lawn which has a beautiful view. It is peaceful and gorgeous. Breakfast is also lovely. this is my favorite hotel anywhere in the world. I have stayed there several times. ... Beautiful back lawn with small pool and beautiful view of the countryside. It is very peaceful and a wonderful hotel and the owners could not be nicer. ... A lovely small hotel built right into the medieval walls with a beautiful back lawn for relaxing and lovely rooms with nice furnishings. A perfect location in a wonderful small town that makes the best red wine in Italy.

When booking, we'd hoped for three nights, but at time of booking, the Saturday night was full, meaning we'd be looking for alternative accommodations elsewhere, however, upon arrival, the party who had initially reserved the room for Saturday, hadn't confirmed, so we were elated to be able to have it. ... ALL staff were most friendly and courteous, that includes the cleaning staff......who were very quick and efficient, as well as the porter/concierge/gardener. The breakfasts were excellent.....as good as, if not better than any we'd had. ... A very charming, unique, 'Boutique' Hotel. Excellent Staff, great breakfasts, very convenient to all shops.....as well as other little hilltop communities and wineries. Highly recommend it. Gene and Mary Daniel, Canada

The sign for the hotel is quite difficult to see as you drive up the hill into Montalcino. ... We loved the hotel and its excellent location just a few minutes walk from the centre of Montalcino. The view from our bedroom of Southern Tuscany was wonderful. The only minor criticism was that there were no eggs on the menu for breakfast. All the other hotels we stayed at in Tuscany and Umbria at least had a Hard Boiled Egg on the menu for breakfast. ... A wonderful hotel with great views of beautiful Southern Tuscany just outside Montalcino which was one of the quieter hill towns we visited. It has however many interesting features including a castle and many good restaurants.

it was a lovely hotel but the prices were rather steep when you compared it to rooms in other montalcino hotels... ... rooms were smaller than expected, but lovely ... A tiny old olive factory turned into hotel right on the walls of the city. Charming, but pricey.

Very pleasant but not intrusive ... I would have liked to see a bit more creativity regarding what was available for breakfast. ... A very beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting, always spotlessly clean.

It would be helpful for accommodation of this standard to have a hairdryer in the bathroom. It is not something we packed travelling from Australia - we assumed the rooms would have one. ... The parking is at the bottom of a 'very' steep hill - this may be prove difficult for older people. ... Quaint and charming, with a beautiful vista from the hotel's terrace.

We were a little confused about the roads all merging into one as we arrived in Montalcino, but the large sign of the hotel on the wall was perfect. Just like on the internet. Check-in was easy and the staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious, clean and ours had a lovely view. The beds were large and comfortable. ... At first we were worried about the close proximity to the busy roads, but in the evenings, it was very quiet and delightful. There were many other guests who enjoyed the night air and patio which was under our bedroom window, but they were not a problem as they knew to keep quiet. Having our own air conditioner was a plus, as well. Also, we had a car and there was plenty of parking which was a big plus. ... The breakfast was wonderful! Coffee was delicious and the ladies helping and preparing were very attentive, friendly and prepared a lovely room for breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious. I would even say that breakfast at the Hotel Vecchia Oliviera was the best of our whole two weeks touring Italy! ... This was one of our favorites. The children enjoyed the pool, the room was clean and the towels were so fresh! It was so easy to walk through the city, enjoy the marvelous osterias and gelato and then wander back down to our hotel in the evenings. We'd love to come back for a second stay!

Because it was available ... Didn't need to ... they were ready for us, and facilitated our arrival knowing that we were weary travelers ... on of the best continental breakfasts ... because I am aware of it now, and it makes booking easier with different time zones ... superb rooms, comfortable and well-appointed furnishings, comfortable and clean bathrooms, good plumbing, great breakfast, accomodating and friendly staff and the most beutiful views from the rooms.

It was a beautiful and very charming hotel. It was our favorite hotel on our 7-day biking trip in Tuscany. The owner gladly arranged transport of our luggage to our next location.
Breakfast was also delicious.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends.

Of all of the places we have stayed in our trips to Italy, we agree that this was among the absolute best. The rates seemed to us impossibly reasonable for the value. The rooms and the views were excellent, and the staff was extremely polite and accomodating. Breakfest is an event and as good as any we have seen. We will certainly return.

Got a little lost getting there...some additional road signs would be nice. Also, update the directions page on the website as when you print the directions it takes 2 pages...the directions get cut off half way through because I only printed the 1st page of the directions...we didn't have the rest of the directions so had to stop and ask. ... The best location I could immagine. Sitting right at the gate to the city. ... Staff was helpful in getting all of our bags back and forth between the car and room. As we had many heavy bags, this was very helpful. ... The location. It's the best! ... Small hotel perched on the edge of the city with sweeping views of the tuscan countryside.

There were no directions from Rome to Montalcino. ... The view was fantastic. ... Christine was an outstanding staff member, who provided recommendations for restaurants, and wine tasting. ... Better directions from the South that provide the exit information from the Auto Strade. ... A beautiful hotel with a breath taking view. The real picture of Italy.

Very nice and exceptionally friendly. Loved their greeting - right there to help with luggage and anything else you wanted or needed. ... Rooms could have been a little cleaner under the beds. They only cleaned the bathrooms and the bedding. ... Again helpful and kind and I felt like I was leaving family. ... Very cozy, great staff, wonderful location, outstanding service for breakfast. They were also there for any questions you might have. Their english was wonderful and helpful.

The Reception clerk was polite. He did not point out that there was a ramp for getting the suitcases to the reception area, until the day we were leaving. He gave us the keys to the rooms, but did not escort us to the room and therefore we were not even aware that there was air conditioning. Our night's sleep would have been much more comfortable had we been informed about this. worked. ... The physical property was as described on your website. Staff were quite distant. We did not feel like a valued guest. One of the toilets plugged up, for no apparent reason. The breakfast was delicious, one of the best we had on the whole trip. The view from my window was magnificent! ... The staff kindly allowed us to keep our luggage there in a safe room for the duration of the day so we did not have to lug it out to the car until after our sightseeing. It was as we were lugging the bags pout that the staff pointed out the ramp we could have used. ... The single room was very, very small, and on the lower level. The sound travel in the hallways, so I could certainly tell when the neighbours were arriving/leaving. The views are magnificent, as is the building itself, and furnishings in the main areas. The pool was extremely cold! ... A beautiful little hotel, with a wonderful view, and some minor incoveniences.

The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful. She not only helped us unload our luggage from the car, but actually helped carry the bags up to our room...not an easy task since we had done so much shopping. She also provided us with numbers and directions to a UPS station so we could ship some of our treasures back to the U.S. ... The stay was very pleasant. We liked being close to the city walls, the breakfast service/buffet was extrordinary and excellent. The folks at the desk were very pleasant, and helpful with directions each time we asked. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a base for the Montalcino area. ... Again, the man at the desk gave excellent directions and helped us load our car...there was much luggage. ... This is a first rate, very clean, hotel. We loved the views from the balcony. We were on the street side, and the traffic below was a bit noisy, but not enough to disturb sleep. The rooms are all up a long flight of stairs...this could be a problem for someone who needs an elevator. But we enjoyed our stay there very much.

These little Tuscan towns are very hard to navigate and we got more than a little lost trying to find the hotel. The little frustration was offset by a nice hotel and attentive staff.
