This is a detached house, close to the tiny village of Mutino, where the road ends- so it is a perfectly quiet location, on the hills between Lucca and the Versilian beaches. The landscape is beautiful, as the typical Tuscan countryside vegetation ( cypress-trees, olive trees..) has the sea as a blue background. Viareggio/Versilia (seaside/ beaches/ pinewoods) at 12 km, the historical towns of Lucca (15 km.), Pisa (20 km.), Florence (80 Km.) within easy reach. Viareggio is the most important center of the long coastal region called Versilia ( sandy beaches for 30 km.s). |
Forte dei Marmi, world-famous for its rich-and-famous guests, is just nearby (all water sports- Viareggio has a big Marina and big and famous shipyards). Pisa and Florence need no introduction. Perhaps Lucca is less famous, yet nowadays it is the most charming one- a totally preserved old center, surrounded by imposing tree-lined city-walls. Fantastic hiking trails pass just by the house. One of them takes you even higher , where you can have a glimpse of one of the finest, and less known, of Puccini's villas. |
The Composer's memories are all over this area. From the terrace of the house, the breathtaking view of the sea and the lake where Giacomo Puccini used to live and write his music: Massaciuccoli. His house by the lake, in Torre del Lago, is now a visitable museum, very fondly taken care of by Puccini's granddaughter, Simonetta. In August, an open-air opera festival, with a striking location by the lake water, allows you to attend to important performances of Puccini's masterpieces. |
