I Melograni (The Pomegranates) Bed & Breakfast Tuscany is run by a friendly Italian/English family in the original part of an old 18th Century villa situated in the countryside between Florence and Pisa. The house is at the end of a quiet country road 3km from the local town Empoli . An ideal location for a holiday exploring Tuscany (by car or train) as it is within easy reach of all the famous and historical towns like Florence 25 mins, Pisa 50 mins, Lucca 45 mins, Siena 1 hour and San Gimignano 45 mins. You can even visit the beautiful beaches of the Italian coastline (write for an itinery). Florence and Pisa airports are only a short rides away. A typical Tuscany breakfast is served on the terrace on sunny days with spectacular views of olive groves and vineyards. A time when guests study their guide books and swap information with other guests on good places to eat or visit before begining their daily excursions. A typical Tuscan breakfast of freshly brewed coffee, brioches, toast, jams, fruit juice and locally produced honey. For those who prefer a savory breakfast we can offer you Tuscany bread filled with prociutto ham and cheese or mozzarella and tomato, all prepared fresh in the "Pasticceria" in the local village and collected early in the morning. |
Florence is only a 25 minute drive but we recommend you leave your car at Empoli station and get the train into Florence to avoid parking stress in the busy and chaotic city centre. The train ride goes along the River Arno and there are some beautiful views of little hilltop towns. The train goes right into Florence centre and takes 25mins. From Florence station it is a five minute walk to the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. For guests travelling without a car we offer a free lift to Empoli train station after breakfast where they can travel to all major towns. There are nice family trattoria's nearby, one of which serves an unusual local Tuscan dish of 'Gnocchi with stinging nettle leaves'. |
Nearby, fifteen minutes by car, is the beautiful little town of Vinci, birthplace of Leonado di Vinci, the famous genius. The Vinci museum displays innumerable working examples of his inventions. The area of Montelupo Fiorentino, four miles away is an historical town famous for terracotta and ceramics. In its little back streets it is possible to buy beautiful hand painted pottery. Every June there is the Ceramics festival and the local artisans show examples of their work with demonstrations revealing age old secrets of hand painting and glass blowing. |
