What a gorgeous property! Usually when you find something online, you get there and you are very disappointed but in this case - the opposite was true! Breathtaking scenery, huge rooms, great staff! Unbelievable value for the money and the wine is remarkable. Wonderful wonderful wonderful.

...
The property more than lived up to our expectations. We had looked on so many websites for villas, but until we visited your site, we had found nothing that we found appealing. The pictures do not do justice to Castello di Meleto. It is an excellent get-away and in a fabulous location for escaping busy city life.

Only one negative, we had a problem with our toilet and professionals were brough in to clean out the drains. We were left with a very unpleasant smell for the remainder of our week. Management made every attempt to make it more bearable, deoderizers, bleach, etc...but, it but a flaw on an otherwise fantastic stay. I was also surprised to find that it had been rented following our departure. I would have thought it unacceptable for a new check-in.
...
I was looking for somewhere where I could get away from the 'things you are supposed to see' and really experience Italy. Italian people, Italian good, Italian culture. The little town of Giaole was wonderful for this. The history of Castello di Meleto was very impressive and interesting. The tour of the castle was fun. And....the wine, olive oil, and basalmic vinegar ----- Fabulous!

The Castello and our apartment were excellent.
I did suggest to the manager, that additional soft and/or sofa type chairs were needed in the living room area. We were 4 people and every night someone had to either sit on a kitchen chair or lay down on the floor(while watching TV).

...
We did find the manager a little snobbish. However she was helpful in many matters.
Your advertizement stated that the apartment we rented had a 'JACUZZI'. There was no such bath available.

When we arrived we got a different room than was stated in the agreement, but it was the same standard as agreed upon beforehand. In addition they gave our 14 year old son a separate room with no bathroom-we shared ours with him. They were not full booked, so he got a better bed at no extra charge. This was very nice of them.
...
Even though we liked the castle very much, that night was unbearable. 35 degrees Celsius and no air conditioning and no fans available. We didnīt sleep and we heard our neighbor get up and drive away and not return. For 180 Euros one should be able to sleep.
On your site it said one could eat there in the castle at dinnertime, but we were informed that they served dinner only on Thursday evenings. So much for bringing fine clothes for that night and carrying them all over Italy for nothing.
On your site it said that there was wine tasting available. None was set up, none was offered. They didnīt even ask if we were interested in buying wine.
These are all the reasons we chose a castle to stay at. It was a great disappointment. We were shown to our room and soon all the staff went home and left the guests with nothing to do. They easily could have offered a cold buffet of food and wine tasting for a price and Iīm sure most of the guests would have stayed there to enjoy the castle. Instead the castle was empty of most furniture and all lights inside turned off. Guests were forced to drive to the nearest town to eat and then in darkness find a way back on winding roads. Then try to sleep without any breeze, without any fan and without any air conditioning. I donīt know how they expect guests to stay a week with nothing to do at the castle. They need help in putting together a proper package deal for guests.
...
see above. It has potential, but they need to rethink their strategy and their meaning for existing as a tourist lodging establishment. The castle itself is wonderful and the rooms are quite nice, but need good air conditioning and/or heaters.

One staff member was not as nice as the others - I believe her name was Gabrielle. The other two (one from Holland and one with an english accent were fantastic!)

The only thing would be to be sure guests know they absolutely need to have a car. WE almost just took a cab from the train in Siena and would have been stranded at the castle if so. While we loved staying there, we would have been dissappointed not to get the see the rest of the area. We only decided at the last minute (and because of a suggestion one of your staff made in an email) to rent a car.
...
An awesome experience! It was very cool to get to stay in the tower room and the grounds are very nice. I loved to wake up in the morning and look out over 'my kingdom' from my tower room window. I felt like a princess! The tour of the castle was worthwhile and we enjoyed the pool that 'falls off the edge of hillside'! The staff gave us an excellent recommmendation for a restaurant in a neighboring village where we had the very best meal of our trip!

I used ItalyBy/TuscanyBy to book all our reservations while we stayed in Italy. The overall accommodations in all locations were absolutely fantastic - wonderful staff, clean and beautifully decorated rooms, ideal location. I choose well but your websites for all places was what convinced me to choose each one. I stayed in Hotel Calzaiuoli in Florence, Castello de Melleto, Tuscany and Hotel Belvedere in Bonasola (absolutely wonderful views from the balconies and extremely helpful and friendly staff).

Thanks for a great website and pass on our thanks to the various resorts should you be in contact with them.

Kind regards

There were some things like a dinner on Tuesday nights that was only offered during peak times that was not available for us. We had also asked in advance for wine tasting and tours and were told we could arrange that when we got there. We did get to taste 3 wines from Meleto but they did not open any others because it was not their peak season and they were unable to arrange other wine tasting tours.

The farmhouse and castle were wonderful. The grounds were kept very clean and the staff was very kind. The house itself was lovely. The only thing I would suggest is that tourists would be told it only had a stove range, not the oven itself for cooking. Otherwise, it was lovely.

We cannot control the weather. On our arrival we sat in our car for half an hour waiting for the rain to subside. Penny and Gabriel went out of their way to help us. Our original room in the castle was flooded so Penny set us up in Luminae 1 a Garden Apartment. The power went out. The thunder and lightning was unbelievable. The ladies had their hands full trying to look after their guests. Despite the rain for two days our stay was beautiful. At least we had sunset by the pool and I swam everyday.

One criticism, the staff member on duty when we checked in was very rude. Had I not prepaid, I would probably have left. We were told that since she had a wine-tasting on we had to wait an hour to be checked in. She seemed extremely put out even having to speak to us. But, I believe the only reason for this is that they are understaffed. They are expected to deal with guests checking in, as well as visitors doing wine-tastings. But, it is always important to remember to treat your customers well. (Especially considering I was adding an extra night to my booking!) Even so, I will still highly recommend the place and would certainly stay there again myself.

You may wish to point out that there is no food or refreshment service (other than wine) at the Castello. For example, if you want a bottle of water you need to go to the local grocery store to get it. The other small suggestion is that the castello states that they offer BBQ's twice per week for guests. The days that they are offered are Tuesday and Thursday, so if you are there for a long weekend (like we were) there is no access to food services on site.

We were offered the room we booked, or a larger room if we wanted which we be more quiet because there was a wedding in the castle that evening. We took the larger room and it was wonderful.

It might be nice to offer a map of the region to guests when they check in. The roads can be difficult for someone not familiar with the area. We went to Siena for the day, and had a very hard time finding the right road to get on for the way home. We then bought a detailed map of the region!

Having lived in England a few years, we were familiar with roundabouts and motorways. The directions on the internet were very simplistic compared to the actual route needed to be taken. Getting out of the airport and onto the correct section of the A-1 was challenging. We exited the very first time we saw the name indicated for exit, Valdarno, when in fact, we should have stayed on the A-1 for another two exits. Thankfully, before our departure, Penny at reception gave us very good directions for getting back to the airport. We were not the only guests who had trouble navigating to Castello di Meleto. Had there been a ceiling fan in the apartment loft that would have been sufficient to cool down the room.

The extra surprise charges are not pleasant to learn about after arrival.

For the rooms that had breakfast the meal started at 8:30, which for those who want to get an early start for the day's journey is quite late.

Although the castle and the room were very nice, the staff was not very polite. Upon arrival, it took them 5 minutes to acknowledge us and they seemed inconvenienced. I would not return or recommend this place based on this.

No one was there to greet us and luckily a girl at the wine shop was locking up and showed us a packet taped to the door with our key. However, the directions in the packet were difficult at best, and the path to our room was dark, dangerous and encombering due to 2 1/2 flights of stairs to drag our bags up and down.

The tower was cold and the bath room was tough to get a shower in. I actually through out my back trying to shower there. We insisted on a different room and thankfully were accomodated due to low season.
...
Yes, Please tell potential users that you must be there before 7pm or you may never find your key or your room. Also, please advise potential onliners that the tower has no heat and is very cold and stark.
...
I would tell them to look elsewhere.

We were rather put off by the welcome at the castle. there is no direct contact with people involved with the stay, it was all done via the wine shop which closes in the evening, after this there would be nobody to ask for help if needed. We had tried ahead of our visit to asertain where we were staying we were told the church house but they did not respond to emails asking what this was. We were in fact, in the castle which consisted of the only room actually accsssed through a tower in the castle. other rooms we were, later to find were entered through a seperate entrance through a corridor ouside the castle. I found the whole experience rather scary! The rooms next to us could enter our room through an interconecting door but we couldn't do the same. Our bathroom was a minute room, part of the tower, i was very shocked when I finally saw the room next door and realised it was ver y luxurios in comparison big bathroom superior fittings etc. When we checked out we brought these things up and found we were paying the SAME as the people in the luxurios rooms. They argued that I had been told i was staying in a castle. My feeling is they need to make plain to visitors what they will be booking. Many people i feel would find it just not acceptable. Not even to mention the inaccsesible entrance up a steep and very windy tower. We had to unpack our clothes in the car as it was just impossible to take them up. On balance, the place was unique but I think their perception of what they are offering needs looking at, as this was a top of the range accomodation.I was disapointed in their reaction to our gripe.
...
As already stated they must point out this is not a 'hotel' castle but is a rather dilapadated and unfurnished empty castle with no staff on duty they must also spell out what the tower room MEANS and point out this is absoloutly not suitable for people of advanced age or disabilities.
...
I would describe our arrival as clean out of 'Rocky Horror!. The countryside is incredible and the pool although not very clean was in a beautiful situation. Everyone I met who tried to use the pool eventually had to give up as it seemed to be invaded by horse flies.

I think people should know that there are no telephones available in the room. The office was kind and let us use there phone for calling out with our phone cards, but it was not possible for anyone to reach us.

The staff at the castle were very friendly and made a special effort to acknowledge that it was my son's birthday..
...
The design of the pool was intriguing...I wish we had come when the weather was warmer so we could have enjoyed a swim...It might be nice to have a few more 'information' type brochures available and maps to special sights nearby for guests like us who may be overwhelmed! The staff was very good at arranging dinner reservations and recommending suitable places to eat!

Unfortunately a dinner reception was scheduled for the one night we stayed there, and the music went on till 1:00 p.m.

The availability of some food would be an added plus. It can be quite challenging finding food and refreshments in a unknown town.

We had booked a twin bed room in the castle.
My wife and I both had colds and the roo was cold, dark and not what we expected. Penny suggested we stay in one of the chapel rooms, which was perfect : well heated, good lighting, great bed, roomy and clean.

The double room promised for our honeymoon was not provided - it was a twin. We stayed on a sofa bed - not the most desirable experience for our honeymoon!!!

We were also told that the 1/2 bottle of wine was specially for us for our honeymoon (a lovely gesture) however, it later transpired that the bottles are given to ALL guests.

There was a lot of work going on around the pool which meant a lot of noise and a lot of stones and cuttings in the swimming pool. There did not appear to be a cleaning rota for the pool.

The receptionist (a girl) was polite, but nothing more. When you arrive to a wine castle, we were expecting a warmer welcome.
But later the lady (the housewife at the wineyard)was giving us wine tasting and much information about the wineyard and castle, which we enjoyed a lot. She was very professional and kindly.
...
We had a guided tour inside the castle.
It was interesting to look in all the rooms. The guide was however rushing, and sometimes we didn't catch what she was saying.
Another thing that dissapointed us, was that we did not get the chanse to look inside the wine cellar. We would believe that any stay at a wine castle should include such a visit.

Many small routes with not too clear indications in the area need a very detailled approach description
...
The bathroom facilities need improvement to catch-up on international standards. To enable an easier stay, the rooms should be equipped with phone and TV set.

Due the non Hotel nature of the facility reception is only available from 9:00 to 19:00 and needs advance planning for check-in and check-out.

Mention that the rooms in the Castle are not equipped with phones and TV. The room in the Castle are also dark, through to the small windows, and can not be recommended for a long stay. The appartments in the dependence equip for weekly stay seems to be ok.

The Castle does not have a restaurant, but is used a lot for Weddings. They do in season Castle diners for the guests, this was very enjoyable

A local resident assisted us in finding our way to Gaole, he was very helpful despite our limited understanding of Italian.

We were not aware that the Castello was not heated and the weather was quite cool so our accomodations in the abbey were very warm and satisfactory. We enjoyed going to the Castello for breakfast in the morning and the grounds were very relaxing. It appears that the staff has much to do to keep the grounds in good order and they were working hard.

Since our stay was for 4 days a little variety for our breakfast would have been nice.

We loved the view of the vineyards from Castello Meleto, the area is very beautiful. The choices for fine dining were just delightful which made our stay in Tuscany memorable.

We hope to return for the Fall harvest in the future.
Thank you for your interest.

The Castello is lovely but comparing it with others in the area it needs to be a little more refined.
A bus load of tourists came and were drinking. They were very noisey and didn't settle down for quite along time into the nite.

It was very noisy due to a digger excavating rock nearby. We were very disappointed at the lack of peace and quiet. The apartment was tatty and in need of upgrading. The staff were overworked with day trippers at the wine shop and had little time to chat.

There was a Bar-B-Q the night we arrived and everyone was very nice at the event. Overall, however, the atmosphere was not one of welcoming hospitality. Not sure if that was due to language barriers or people just having a bad day.
...
The lady who helped us check-out was very nice. However, the bill was not ready and so we came back after breakfast.
...
Amazing castle with a dreary feel to it. Wine is obvious the focus of the property - not accommodations.
