Our story begins in the legendary wine-making 'Chianti Classico' region, on an estate that reigns over 300 hectares of vineyard, olive grove and Tuscan forest, one that has evolved over 500 years of Italian history.

At the heart of the Estate is Villa Mangiacane - a magnificent 15th Century villa bearing the unmistakable hand of Renaissance master, Michelangelo. Once the home of the powerful Machiavelli family and centuries later, the Mazzei family, it is a villa with a rare heritage.

Within the villa, the restored original Renaissance frescoes, and paintings ranging from 15th Century antiques to South African contemporary tell a story of a legend that has moved with the times. Just as Renaissance sculptors believed that a masterpiece lay dormant in every stone, and that the artist simply awakens it - Villa Mangiacane itself has awakened to embrace a new era.

Throughout the centuries it has been tradition for Italian nobility to be patrons to great artists. Villa Mangiacane stays true to this by sponsoring on-site artists from Zimbabwe and abroad, and numerous art exhibition openings. All profits go to deserving African charities.

As you pace amongst the myriad of masterpieces in the 'Giardino delle scultura' with its backdrop of nature, your eye travels in time as it moves across a spectrum that includes Lithuanian Cubism and Zimbabwean Shona sculptures.
