By plane: Fiumicino airport in Rome is around 200 kilometres far from the property, while the terminal in Florence is 134 kms away, and Pisa, 195 kms. From any of these points you may reach the property easily by train, as Chiusi railway station is a stop in the itineraries connecting Rome and Florence.
By car:
From Fiumicino airport in Rome you must get on A91 and A90 highways before driving along A1/E35. Here, exit at "Chiusi/ Chianciano Terme" and follow the signs for Chianciano and Montepulciano. After around 20 kilometres you will arrive in Montepulciano, where you must turn left in Via di San Pietro ( follow signs for Centro storico-Duomo-Parking n. 8), and then take the first on the left ( Via Filosofi). After Cantina Gattavecchi, turn left and arrive in Via di San Donato and finally, veer left at Via Ricci, which will lead you to Piazza San Francesco.La Locanda stands on number 5, next to the church. (This journey will take around 2 hours 15 minutes).
From Peretola airport in Florence, take the A11/E76 motorway, then the A1/E35 and get off at exit "Valdichiana/ Betolle". Follow the signs for Montepulciano passing the town of Torrita di Siena and once you arrive, turn left in Via di Circonvallazione. At the end of Via di Circonvallazione,take your right in Via di San Pietro ( follow signs for Centro storico-Duomo-Parking n. 8), and then the first on the left (Via dei Filosofi). After Cantina Gattavecchi, turn left
and arrive in Via di San Donato and finally, veer left at Via Ricci, which will lead you to Piazza San Francesco (1 hour 40 minutes).
FROM SOUTH
Take A1 highway DIRECTION FLORENCE.Drive along the highway and take the "CHIUSI/ CHIANCIANO TERME" exit. Then follow the indications for CHIANCIANO and MONTEPULCIANO. After around 20 kilometres you will arrive in Montepulciano: at the FIRST INTERSECTION turn right (you will have two roads on your right, take the road climbing up to the village named VIA DI SAN PIETRO) then take the first road on your left named VIA DEI FILOSOFI and follow signs for Centro storico-Duomo-Parking n. 8. After Cantina Gattavecchi, turn left and take VIA DI SAN DONATO, follow the road straight ahead passing the big piazza - PIAZZA GRANDE - and finally at the end of VIA RICCI, you will reach PIAZZA SAN FRANCESCO. La Locanda stands on number 5, next to the church. (This journey will take around 2 hours 15 minutes)
FROM NORTH
Take A1 highway DIRECTION ROME and get off at exit "VALDICHIANA/ BETTOLLE". Follow the signs for Montepulciano passing the town of Torrita di Siena and once you arrive, turn left in VIA DI CIRCONVALLAZIONE. At the end of Via di Circonvallazione,at the INTERSECTION PIENZA/CHIUSI turn right(take the road climbing up to the village named VIA DI SAN PIETRO).Then take the first road on your left named VIA DEI FILOSOFI and follow signs for Centro storico-Duomo-Parking n. 8. After Cantina Gattavecchi, turn left and take VIA DI SAN DONATO, follow the road straight ahead passing the big piazza - PIAZZA GRANDE - and finally at the end of VIA RICCI, you will reach PIAZZA SAN FRANCESCO. (1 hour 40 minutes).
By train: The nearest railway station is Chiusi, placed 15 minutes away by car from the property. Services connecting Florence and Rome stop here, so it will not be difficult to reach it (you will have around 1 hour 20 minutes from Rome and 1 hour from Florence). The managers of La Locanda advise guests to rent a car at Chiusi, as the inn is one of the few lodgings in Montepulciano holding special permissions to enter the historical centre by car. Otherwise, you may come to the railway station in Montepulciano, placed 4 km from the historical center and the Locanda: here there are buses to the bus station of Montepulciano, and from there the "Pollicino" Bus to the centre of town or going around the historical streets; get off at Piazza Grande stop and you will be standing 50 metres from the property.
Please note that on Sunday you can have some difficulties in reaching the historical center with public transports. |
