 The Chartreuse of Calci, founded in 1366, approximately 10 kilometers from Pisa, and situated in a beautiful valley that was once known as "Valle Graziosa" - the gracious valley. The Chartreuse, suppressed in 1808 by Napoleonic Law, became the property of the State, but continued to accommodate the Chartusian order until 1972. The Chartreuse of Calci is world famous as one of the most beautiful monastic monuments, with splendid frescos. There is an interesting museum of natural history worth seeing especially if you are travelling with children.
In General: Our B&B is located 500m from the centre of the village of Calci, where you can find a supermarket (open Monday to Saturday from 8.00 am - 8.00 pm) and shops for your basic needs. There is also a post office, a bank, a pharmacy and many restaurants in the village or in the hills.
For those who like sport, Calci offers a tennis club, foot and bike trekking in the hills surrounding the valley. There are golf courses 20 km away. |
