From Florence A1 motorway, exit Firenze Sud. Take road S.S. 222 for Greve in Chianti. Go through Grassina and after 5 km you come to Strada in Chianti. Continue for another 2 km and take the turn off for La Panca; 1 km later you will find Borgo Le Mura.
The best way to visit Greve is to come by car from Florence or Sienna along Route 222, the very attractive "Chiantigiana" road passing through the Chianti wine area. Visitors to the area arriving from Rome can leave the motorway at Figline Val d'Arno. From the west, there is a road connecting with the highway at Tavarnelle or S. Donato. This road passes the monastery at Badia a Passignano and the village of Montefioralle.
It is also possible to reach Greve by SITA bus from Florence. The bus station is 100 yards to the left of the Railway Station (SMN). The trip takes one hour. There are two routes, via Grassina and via Ferrone. The Grassina road is the "Chiantigiana".
In summer, from mid-June to the end of July, there is a bus connection from Florence to Sienna through Greve on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It passes through Greve at 8.30 am and takes another hour to reach Sienna. For the timetable, ask at the SITA station in Florence or at the outlets in Greve that sell the tickets. In other seasons, you have to return to Florence and take the express bus via the motorway to Sienna. |
