"La Torre del Chianti" is an exclusive and medieval Villa in the most beautiful and picturesque area of Tuscany. The magic building with antiques and historical furniture allows up to 7 people to make an unforgettable trip back to the Middle Age. The medieval tower ("torre") is situated in a typical stone built village and dates back to the 13th century. Nowadays the luxurious tower accommodates people from all over the world, who have sense for extraordinary things of historical importance - Welcome in a real fairy tale!

The splendid accommodation is providing for its guests a beautiful and impressive setting: surrounded by vineyards, olive trees and the special atmosphere of the charming village and its 40 inhabitants. All three suites (two junior one and a normal one) such as the dinning room are furnished and decorated with historical pieces, which seem to tell exciting stories of all the grand dukes ("Granduchi") of Tuscany, who passed through there in former times. Every single piece of the beautiful collection brings to mind a medieval epoch from "Leopoldo di Toscana" and "Violante di Baviera" till "Cosimo dei Medici".

We invite you for a historical walk through the tower:
The magnificent and enchanting medieval tower "Torre del Chianti" in the historical tiny village of "San Sano" has three floors. According to its original way of use the main entrance is on the second floor. When entering you can
admire the beautiful arch from 13th century - made of "pietra albarese" (a typical stone which is found only in the Chianti area) - of the main door. This door is reinforced in a very particular way, like it was common in this period.

The "Salone" (dining room) was used in former days as a "cucinone", a kind of kitchen and living room at the same time - you can still see the typical stone sink from 19th century such as the romantic open fireplace.
In the Middle Ages the "cucinone" was the meeting point of the "Capitani di Ventura" (a sort of Tuscan knights), who had to decide the strategies of their troops. Nowadays there - in front of the unique fireplace a delicious glass of our famous "Chianti" wine is a must. The open fireplace is decorated with a historical oil lamp from 1800, which was serving as a coach-lamp pot. Looking through the main windows of the room, you can admire amazing vineyards as far as the eye can see, while through the window on the other side of the room you can catch the view of the tiny historical stone built village "San Sano", where now live about 40 people.

At the same floor as the "salone" and the kitchen is one of the three splendid suites. Like all the suites of the residence it is dedicated to a famous historical personality: the Grand Duke ("Granduca") "Cosimo dei Medici"; he is well known for having created the world famous "Uffizi" and "Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Inside a niche of the suite is an original bed of the family of "Cosimo dei Medici", it shows the typical symbol - a marvelous golden crown - of the "Medici" family. From the suite, complete with an antique writing desk and a precious divan you can almost breath the air of the Middle Ages! The elegant bathroom has a wonderful original wash basin from 19th century and is decorated with a mirror of the same period.

Now our trip continues at the upper part of the tower, where you find the other two suites - furnished with maximum care and taste. This part of the tower once was used for overlooking the area and for "communicating" with the "language of the flags" with the "Castello di Lecchi" (Castle of Lecchi). Inside the suite dedicated to "Leopoldo di Toscano" we go through the beautiful arch of "pietra albarese" (a typical stone which is be found only in the Chianti area) and find the romantic bed with a canopy from 19th century. One side of the wall still consists of the original local bare stone used back when it was first built. Of the precious writing desk as well as the historical bed side table you find nowadays only a few pieces in Tuscany.

From the windows you have
a spectacular view over the vineyards and all over the Chianti region - on clear days you till "Monte Amiata" in "Val d` Orcia". In the lounge of the suite a historical chessboard and an ancient wooden divan are provided for your comfort. The bathroom belonging to this suite has - like the others - an antique stone made wash basin and through a small glass tube you can see a piece of the sky above you.

At the same floor is the suite dedicated to a female Grand Duke "Violante di Baviera", who once ruled Siena and wrote the rules of the famous "Palio di Siena" (a historical horse race, that takes place twice a year in Siena) in 1721. The bed in this room is of a historical family of Siena: the "Piccolomini". The bed in this time was regarded as a lucky charm, a "portafortuna" for the ones sleeping in it and for this until today it is called "nodo dell`amore". The chest of drawers completed with a mirror such as the divan from the beginning 1900 were used by the grandfather of the owner of "Torre del Chianti". in the bathroom of the suit is a very particular historical wash basin, which is sculpted in the form of a shell. Very special in the suite of "Violante di Baviera are the "feritoie", very small windows, which served to defend the tower in difficult periods.
