Coming by Car:
From Rome:
Take motor-way A1 with direction of Florence; exit Val di Chiana; follow firstly the signs for Siena, then for Florence; exit Poggibonsi; once you are there follow the roadsigns for San Gimignano. It will take 10 minutes to come to us. The journey takes approx. 3 hours.
From Siena:
Take Siena-Florence junction with direction of Florence; exit Poggibonsi; once you are there, it will take 10 minutes to come to S. Gimignano. The journey takes approx. 40 min.
From Pisa:
Take Pisa-Florence junction (SS. 55 also called FI-PI-LI) in direction of Florence; exit "Empoli Ovest"- Ponte a Elsa; follow the signs for Castelfiorentino and then for Certaldo; once you are there, follow the roadsigns for San Gimignano.
From Florence:
Take Florence-Siena junction in direction of Siena and exit at Poggibonsi Nord. Once you are there follow in direction San Gimignano and you will get here in 15 min.
San Gimignano historical centre is completely closed to general traffic. Traffic Police authorize only cars of inhabitants or of tourists needing to unload luggage.So if you come into contact with the police you should inform them that you are renting an apartment in Via San Matteo and you need to enter the town centre so you can unload your luggage. The road you should take is Via dei Fossi driving from south (Porta S. Giovanni) to North (Porta S. Matteo), drive along the surrounding walls, straight-on to Via Garibaldi until it is intersected by Via di Ghiacciaia on your right. Take Via di Ghiacciaia and continue along this road passing the traffic lights then follow the road around until it becomes Via Folgore da San Gimignano. Continue straight ahead and the road will become Via XX Settembre. Continue up the steep slope until you meet Via di Capassi on your left. Turn left onto Via di Capassi and continue along until you come to the intersection with Via dei Marsili. Just on your right you can park the car and unload your luggage.To reach Via San Matteo you walk up Via dei Marsili and turn right into Via San Matteo where you will see the leather shop"F2" on the left side of the main street. Here you will find someone to welcome you and accompany you to the apartment "Il Dante".
Then you will need to park your car in one of the designated parking areas located around the city wall. You can either park for free or put your car in a 24hr monitored car park.
Coming by Plane:
From Florence A.Vespucci Airport you can rent a car and follow the above instructions. |
