Art e Culture:
"Io fui da Montefeltro, io son Bonconte". ('I was from Montefeltro, I am Bonconte'). Uttering these words Buonconte da Montefeltro introduces himself in the 5th canto of Purgatory in Dante's Divine Comedy. Buonconte died in the battle of Campaldino. Today a stone slab in the plain of Campaldino remembers the battle in which also Dante took part.

The Castle of Conti Guidi in Poppi:
Set on top of the town, witness of numerous events of Tuscan history, it is undoubtedly one of the most popular and important destinations dating back to the Middle Ages in Casentino. Inside the magnificent building, attributed to Vasari, is a glazed terracotta from the Della Robbia's workshop and a chapel with frescoes attributed to Taddeo Gaddi. The famous Rilliana Library , with its 16th century incunabula, is also sited here.

Religious Places

Camaldoli:
Also called "Monasterium Princeps", it is a famous Hermitage and Monastery founded in 1017 by the Benedictine monk Saint Romualdo who established the Camaldolensian order. The hermitage with its monks'cells, including the one where Saint Romualdo lived, is particularly interesting, along with the monastery and the ancient Camaldolensian pharmacy where the monks made use of medical herbs.

La Verna Sanctuary:
"Il crudo sasso" ("the hard rock"), which Dante refers to in his Paradise, is the place where Saint Francis, the knight of Madonna Povertà (Lady Poverty), received the "last seal" (the stigmata) from Christ. In 1213 Count Orlando gave Saint Francis the hermitage of La Verna as a present. The whole Sanctuary is extremely inspiring. Here you can admire the Sasso Spicco (a rock jetting out from the mountain), the saint's bed, his cell and numerous glazed terracotta works by Andrea and Luca Della Robbia.

Santa Maria in Bibbiena:
Here the Virgin Mary appeared in 1347. The present church was built in 1495, also with the financial support of Lorenzo Il Magnifico. The Convent of the Dominican fathers was inaugurated by Girolamo Savonarola. Today some cloistered Dominican nuns live here.

Santa Maria Delle Grazie - Stia:
The church is 3 km away from Stia, on the provincial road to Londa. Here, on 20th May 1428 the Virgin Mary appeared to Monna Giovanna, a humble peasant woman. For some centuries the church was owned by the Arcispedale di Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Then, in 1700 it became the property of the monks of Vallombrosa. It is one of the few Renaissance buildings in Casentino. Inside are some masterpieces including a few glazed terracotta works attributed to Ghirlandaio.

Arezzo And The Antique Trade Fair: on first week-end of months, in Piazza Grande Square.

Pieve S.Maria:
In Romanesque style (12th century). Worth seeing: allegories of the months of the year - crypt where the relics of San Donato, the patron saint of the town, are kept.

The Cathedral
Glass stained windows by Marcillat, Chapel of Madonna del Conforto (Madonna of the Consolation), Cenotaph of Guido Tarlati, last Prince Bishop of Arezzo, fresco of Maddalena Penitente (the Penitent Magdalene) by Piero della Francesca.

Chiesa Di San Domenico:
Wooden Crucifix by Cimabue (14th century).

Chiesa Di San Francesco:
Here is probably the most prestigious tourist attraction of the town and the envy of the whole world: the frescos of La storia della vera croce ( Story of the True Cross) by Piero della Francesca. We organize guided tours of Arezzo, Assisi, Cortona, Camaldoli, La Verna, Gubbio.

Golf: For lovers of this sport, the course of Casentino Golf Club, one of the most beautiful in Tuscany, is only a few kilometres from the hotel. Set on a hill commanding a superb view on the whole valley and dominated by the magnificent castle, the course is particularly suited for those who prefer to test their technical and accuracy skills rather than their strength.

Handicraft
In search of ancient and almost forgotten jobs, you'll discover skilful stonemasons and clever, patient weavers who produce beautiful and unique hand-woven pieces of clothing. In Stia, pay a visit to TACS, a textile firm which has relaunched the typical Casentino wool fabric, locally manufactured and exported all over the world. See its manufacturing process.from raw wool to the finished various clothing items.

Gastronomy
In the summer, gastronomic events and tastings are organized in the numerous small towns and villages of this well preserved valley. These are unique occasions to sample the ancient recipes of Casentino such as tortelli di patate (pasta with potato filling), boletus mushrooms, tripe, frogs, chestnuts...
