For us San Michele was a gem. The room (Superior Double) was lovely, the view from the room was for ever over Tuscany, and the location was ideal (40 meters from the central piazza).
We spent 5 full days enjoying the ins and outs and shops and retaurants of Cortona, and San Michele was the ideal base.

If you have any feeling at all for history and beauty, you'll enjoy it.

When I asked for a superior room on-line, they offered me a suite (for much more money). I decline their offer, and then they e-mailed me back to offer me the superior room. The hotel was not very full when we arrived (in July).

We would like to acknowledge the service provided by Carlo, the hotel manager, who not only answered our questions about the hotel but took the time to give us the history of the hotel and Cortona. Carlo was a superb host...very friendly and very considerate.

In the two weeks we spent in Italy in which we stayed in nine hotels and bed and breakfasts, we would have to rate the Hotel San Michelle as one of the finest and most unique. Superb accomdations and service.

I would like to comment about the above average help by the day and night manager. We unfortunately had a sick child with us and they went out of their way to find a doctor to come to the hotel. We were so appreciative. We would highly recommend the hotel to friends and family.

Since there is no free parking within the city walls, it will be helpful to know that the visitors of the hotel can download their packages in front of the hotel and then have to park outside the walls.

The only negative was that there was no shower curtain around the tub in the two junior suites. Not a big deal, but it would have made everything about the stay perfect.

A wonderful hotel staffed by very helpful people. The location could not be better. Their receommendations were excellent and their directions were always accurate. We would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Cortona.

We were very timid about driving into the narrow street in Cortona. As soon as we pulled up in front of the hotel, a very helpful young man named Paul came out and greeted us and told us that there was parking for an additional 14 euro and he would take the car there if we wished. It was the best 14 euro we ever spent. Breakfast was very nice, as was our room. Our room was at the top of very steep stairs (which we had been warned about). I didn't get a chance to mention to someone that the bannister is coming away from the wall and should be repaired as someone could have an accident while holding onto it.

We very much enjoyed the staff, and they were extrememly helpful and kind - we couldn't have asked for better treatment.

Directions could be a bit more percise - we found it, but only because we had been to Cortona before. Had we not been there before, it may have been difficult to find.

Paulo met us at the door and took care of everything. The staff was outstanding and the hotel everything we could have wanted and more.

Felt like home from the minute we stepped in the door. The room was clean and nicely decorated as you would expected. The view of the Cortona rooftops from the balcony was beautiful. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Cortona is lovely.

Nothing about the hotel...just that Cortona doesn't really look likr it did in the movie 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. Don't expect to see that fountain in the piazza...

Very positive - everybody was very helpful and supportive, in terms of information re: the hotel and beyond.
The only 'problem' (and that has nothing to do with the hotel itself) was, that it's a bit confusing to get from the trainstation to Cortona, respectively to the hotel. So, it would be perfect, if the hotel offered help in terms of sending a car, a cab etc.

The Hotel personnel were congenial and helpful. The location with respect to the center of Co rtona could not be better. The breakfast was quite ample and pleasant. I would not hesitate in recommending this property to my friends.

We would have appreciated a bar and coffee facilites as are usual at a 4 star hotel.

Good staff. Room was small and far from soundproof. Very basic breakfast. Nowhere congenial to relax. Only 4 star hotel in town. Lovely town.
