The hotel works within a villa from the 19th century: the typical features of Tuscan old style have been preserved and nowadays they stun visitors side by side with modern comforts. The house - consisting of a ground floor and two superior ones - stands in the middle of a 7.000 square metres park where you will enjoy the swimming pool, a five-a-side soccer pitch and a tennis court, among other facilities outdoors. |
Originally, the villa was constructed as a summer residence by the Cafarelli princes of Rome: this is why at first it was known as "Villa Cafarelli", the largest and most elegant property in the area. Back then, there were very few inhabitants on the coast, and they would borrow the horse-drawn carriages of the Cafarellis to go from one villa to the other. |
Soon the house began to host some really famous artists and wealthy families, such as writers James Joyce and Thomas Mann, poet Gabriele D`Annunzio, the Ricasoli barons and the Agnellis. After these period of splendour the villa was put on sale and the actual owners - Paola Donati Siciliano and her husband - acquired it in 1972. Since then they make renovations every year, trying to respect the original setting. |
