La Fonte del Machiavelli Bed & Breakfast, housed in a charming and accurately restored ancient cottage, is located in S. Andrea in Percussina, in one of Tuscany's most pictoresque areas in the very heart of the Chianti Classico valley near Florence. The village of S. Andrea in Percussina has ancient origins and it is one of the most charming sites near San Casciano Val di Pesa.

It has been a property of the Florentine bishops since it was built and later became part of the Florentine Republic in the 13th century. It is situated near a very important road where pilgrims and merchants travelled to reach "Francigen Way" in Poggibonsi. This road was called "strada regia romana" in the 15th century and it was the main connection between Florence and Rome. Niccolò Machiavelli (Firenze 1469-1527), one of the most important personalities of the history of Florence, lived here.

In 1513 when The Medici Family was restored after the fall of the Republic, Machiavelli had to leave Florence together with his family and they all moved to his father's land "Albergaccio". Here he started to meditate about the problems that afflicted Italy. Here Machiavelli wrote his political masterpiece "Il Principe". The Machiavelli Family had several properties among which "Albergaccio" and " Fontalle". Nowadays the village has remained unchanged and the 13th century vaults remind us of this great Florentine man.
