Villa Fonte al Sole is immersed in the vineyards of the Chianti Classico region and overlooks a portion of the town of San Casciano Val di Pesa. The villa is just 15 kilometers from Florence, 35 km from Siena, and about 50 km from the sea. It is surrounded by a vast garden, which also includes a swimming pool, and is the ideal spot for fun and relaxation. The six-bedroom, five-bath villa itself has been decorated with care and style by its owners. At Fonte al Sole, you can also sample and purchase the typical products of the region. These include wines, oils, jams, and much more. |
History Century, until in 1369 Giovanna, daughter of Francesco Buondelmonti, sold it to Giachellino, son of Giovanni da Barberino, resident of Verona. In 1381 the property passed to the son of Milanese nobleman Luchino Visconti. After his death, the entire estate was bequeathed at Visconti's behest to the monastery of the Certosa until 1808. |
In this period the monastery began organising the countryside around the property in a more productive and organic way, in the manner of the large Tuscan farms, until the whole of the Certosa was confiscated by the state for explicit Napoleonic edict. At the end of the 19th Century the villa, along with its farm and land, was bought by the American Enrico di Giorgio Miles, who immediately transformed the old castle farm into a true country villa, creating the important garden. |
On his death in 1863, the villa's inheritors had no intention of running the farm, and so in 1876 the property was sold to the Florentine Michele di Jacopo Scarlini. It was upon his request that the villa underwent modifications both in terms of decoration and size. Scarlini increased the number of farms intensifying cultivation, which resulted in the need for a more suitable organisation of the land used for harvesting and the transformation of agrarian products. |
For this purpose, in 1903 the underground heated cellar was created, which is still in use today. In 1876 the property passed first to Evelina Scarlini and then to her sons Giovanni and Michele, who in turn left it to Alessandra Cateni Orsi Bertolini, who still runs the property to this day, together with her children Orsino and Silvia. |
