The Fattoria di Monti stands on top of a hill at the end of a tree-lined road. The newly restored red villa was used in the past as a stable and then as the farm manager's house. The Red House is located next to the Villa of Monti. This impressive renaissance Villa was built in the middle of the XVI century as a hunting stay for sportsmen and city politicians. |
The count Bardi's family was the first owner and some historians think that the architect Buontalenti designed and built the villa over ancient ruins. There are many detailed myths about the Bardi's family: some legends depict ghosts wandering within the villa and others tell of ghosts atop white horses in the countryside. Through the glass door in the kitchen of the Red House, you will be exposed to a view of the historic and majestic Villa di Monti. |
Monti is a farm of 300 hectares located on the southern hills of Pisa in the surrounding countryside of Volterra. We raise cattle and horses, and grow cereal and hay. With the hilly landscape, you can admire fields between woods and bushes where the livestock graze and roam freely. |
In the winter time hunters with their hunting dogs shoot pheasants and gray partridges. Along the ridges, the farm's borders are indicated by cypress trees. Many old olive trees are cultivated in the traditional way and we pay particular attention to the quality of our olive oil. |
