The palazzo was restored in the 1800s but goes way back to 1000 AC, when it formed part of the castle. A labyrinth of vaulted ceilings, stone fireplaces and original frescoes, this is that rarity: a hotel with an intimate feel. Each of the bedrooms has been furnished with elegance using period furniture, antiques and original paintings.

It is an antique collector's paradise - which is no surprise: the owner's grandparents were antique dealers. It almost feels as though they are still here, wandering the historic corridors and rooms. The rooms all have en-suite bathrooms and television and guests can also relax in the Jacuzzi situated in the vaulted seventeenth century cistern on the ground floor.

Specialness is everywhere, from the high frescoed ceilings of the 'noble floor' to the bare beams and rooftop views of the characterful servants' quarters. Every floor has a wonderful sitting room or library, with books, comfy chairs and something precious in each corner. Dinner and food/wine tasting are served in the old wine cellar and breakfast is served in the old stable or under the shade of the age-old wisteria in the garden.
