The Giovanni da Verrazzano Restaurant can seat 80 people inside and has a further 50 places available on the terrace overlooking the magnificent main square in Greve in Chianti. The cuisine is profoundly linked to this land of ours, as is the choice of wines: this range from the countless varieties of Chianti Classico to locally produced wines kept in barriques, from the Brunello di Montalcino to the Nobile di Montepulciano. The white wines too are a product of the Chianti area, but we have also selected several Vernaccie di San Gimignano. We use exclusively extra virgin olive oil produced in this area. |
Taking part in the courses laid on by the Giovanni da Verrazzano Restaurant's Tuscan Cookery School is a fascinating experience: aspects range from learning to select the best quality basic ingredients to choosing the appropriate wines, from the initial preparation to tasting the finished product, putting theory into practice. The Tuscan Cookery School reveals and explains the secrets of one of the best known regional cuisines, which is also one of the best loved worldwide. |

A tourist and spiritual journey through the Greve in Chianti community is aimed at gaining greater knowledge of the development of religious art in a land strongly marked with a human presence and attention to the different forms of devotion that intimately penetrate all the social strata; not only priceless works of architecture, sculpture and art that are found in the most important worship buildings, but also numerous evidences of a relatively minor art that is traceable everywhere, from the isolated chapel in the forest, to the remote crosses on the top of the knolls and hills, to the votive tabernacles scattered along the road network. Coming from Firenze Certosa, the first monuments worthy of architectural interest that we meet are two ancient castles positioned on the ridge of the knolls/hills, as if they were guarding the entrance to the valleys: the Vicchiomaggio Castle and the small church of S. Maria on the bank to the right of the Greve stream, and the Verrazzano Castle on the left. |
