 Although you will relax a great deal at Cretaiole, you will never be bored. Indeed, you can learn how to make pasta by hand, walk on nature trails or ride mountain bikes.
It is also possible to taste Brunello and Nobile wines at small wineries in Montalcino, visit olive oil presses, tour Pienza's ancient Hermitage (located on our property), and depending on the season, take part in grape harvesting, olive picking, and truffle digs in our truffle field. |
 It's funny to try to make our typical hand-made pasta ("pici") under the expert guide of Liliana and Isabella... and it's a real pleasure to join together with the other guests for a very special home-made dinner!
Children will find the holiday an exciting one because they will finally be able to run around free of danger, play on the playground, and meet our cats and adorable guinea pigs. |
 Our farm covers about 70 hectares of land, where wheat, broad beans, barley, grapes and olives are grown. We also have a field where excellent white truffles grow. There is always something interesting to learn, whether it is about our production and conservation techniques or about the agricultural seasons.
You can enjoy our genuine products by purchasing a bottle of our Chianti or extra-virgin olive oil... and by picking, free of charge, your favourite vegetables from our vegetable garden.

 Pienza is an excellent reference point for art and history aficionados. In a matter of minutes, treasures such as the medieval town of Monticchiello can be reached, as well as the Renaissance city of Montepulciano, Montalcino (Brunello wine) and Chiusi, which is home to the renowned Etruscan Museum. The surrounding area offers an on-going calendar of concerts, theatrical shows, food festivals and exhibits. Those who enjoy hot springs and thermal baths will want to visit Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo. People of all ages will enjoy Siena, Perugia and Arezzo, which can be reached in just over a half hour.
It's important also to point out that Pienza lies in a very strategic gegraphical position: in a few minutes you can reach the most wonderful surroundings of all Tuscany and real architectural juwels like Montalcino, Montepulciano, San Quirico D'Orcia. In about 40 minutes it's possible to arrive to Siena, Perugia and Arezzo. One of the most exciting experiences that you can make is to take a warm bath in the thermal pool of Bagno Vignoni (38°C) under a hot waterfall! You can reach Bagno Vignoni in only 5 minutes from Cretaiole driving on a beautiful country road in the very heart of the Crete Senesi... |
 Last but not least is the visit to the ancient "Hermitage of Pienza": it is probably one of the most fascinating excursions not included in the usual tourist routes in the area. The Hermitage belongs to our family and we will personally lead you through this secret door to Etruscan and Roman history. For those who enjoy horseback riding, in Castelmuzio (8 km from Pienza) it is also possible to make nice excursions under the guide of Michael, a perfect connaisseur of the surroundings and of the most beautiful country roads in our area.
The territory of the Valdichiana is the ideal place to make trekking, to ride horses and to make long runs with mountain-bike, crossing ways and paths with cypresses and pines, still walking through the typical tuscan landscape: olive-groves, vineyards, woods and cultivated fields. The Chiusi lake , the Montepulciano lake and the Trasimeno lake offer the possibility to fish, to make rowing, surf and bird-watching. It is also possible to make excursion by boat, which are very interesting and fascinating shows not only for the lover and the expert but also for the person looking for a direct contact with the wild nature of these environments. |
 This is the territory of the wine. You have the possibility to visit wine cellars and to taste famous and fabulous wines like the Chianti, the Nobile di Montepulciano, the Brunello di Montalcino, the Vino bianco dei Colli Toscani, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the Vin Santo di Montepulciano and the Orvieto Classico. Lots of oil-mills still work with an "ancient" art to make the famous Extra Virgin olive oil. Lots of dairies around Pienza offer the possibility to see how they realize the famous Pienza's sheep-chess. You have not to forget the savory "chianina" meat which is, thanks to its strong characteristics, very selective and esteemed.
Cretaiole is the ideal place to visit famous cities like San Gimignano, Pisa, Orvieto, Todi, Assisi, the San Galgano abbey, the Sant'Antimo abbey and the Monte Oliveto Maggiore abbey. Here around you can visit Chianciano, Montepulciano, Pienza, Sarteano, Cetona, Chiusi, Torrita di Siena, Sinalunga, San Casciano dei Bagni, Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo and Trequanda which are all still preserving their historical culture. |
