Radda in Chianti is an ancient village in the midst of the Chianti hillsides, situated in the heart of Tuscany 535m above sea level. Inhabited from Etruscan times, during the Middle Ages, Radda suffered intensely from the bitter disagreement between Siena and Florence, sustaining serious damages following the invasion of the Sienese troops. From the Middle Ages the village has conserved its basic structure and several buildings, of which the towers, sections of the perimeter walls, the Church of San Niccolò and the Podestà Palace. Today, Radda in Chianti has re-discovered its touristic vocation thanks to Tuscan gastronomic tradition and the natural, historical treasures so easily dispersed in the surroundings. |
