Le Coloniche is well situated for trips to many of the famous Tuscan Art Cities such as Florence, Lucca and Pisa. Nearby there are numerous small historical villages and the Spa Center of "Montecatini Terme", famous for its Liberty Style and beatiful gardens.
Close to Le Coloniche is the small town of "Monsummano Terme" with its Spa resort Grotta Giusti and the beautiful Villa Renatico with its own museum. At "Monsummano Alto" there is an old tower and the 12th century Church of San Nicolao.
Montevettolini is an ancient 12th century village where there is a Villa of the Medici Family.
You can go for a pleasant drive through the countryside around Larciano and Lamporecchio which is a good wine producing area. Nearby is Vinci with its famous Museum dedicated to the great Leonardo da Vinci. At Sovigliana di Vinci you can visit the Taccini Ceramic Workshop , which is world famous.
In Pistoia, the main town of the province, visit the "Piazza Duomo" with its ancient 11th century Palazzo dei Vescovi ( Bishop Palace), it also has its own museum. Worth seeing are the 13th century Baptistery built by the Pisano School and the 14th century Church of Santa Maria with its Vasari Cupola. July in Pistoia is festival month, with concerts , antique markets and the Pistoia Blues with famous artists from all over the world. The festival month ends with the Palio dell'Orso in the Piazza Duomo.
In Lucca there are many monuments, churches and villas to visit. The 3rd Saturday and Sunday of every month there is an important antique market. In July there are organized various concerts including Jazz, in the Anfiteatro Square.
In Pisa a visit to the famous Tower is a must. The 15th and 16th June there is a festival to honour the patron saint of the town, Ranieri.In this occasion the houses facing the river Arno are illuminated by candles and a statue of the Saint Ranieri is brought on to the river.
"Certaldo Alto", a small town on the way to Siena, has a festival from the 23rd until the 28th of July, local craftsmen show their products by the roadside. There are also concerts and good Tuscan food.
