Unclear where hotel entrance was. ... The view from our room was spectacular which couldn't be relayed over the website. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay. ... Efficient and friendly ... Long drive up to the hotel from the main road. Too long to walk. Some great walks if you go past the hotel. ... Beautiful hotel with great views. A good base for exploring the region or just chilling out for a few days.

Absolutely first class. Arrived in a snow storm. Receptionist was superb and even took us to the room. ... We were very, very impressed by the warmth, friendliness and helpfulness of ALL staff. There is a superb ethos of joint staff commitment in this hotel. ... This hotel is simply bursting with quality. Spectacular site. Spectacular views. Wonderful chestnut flooring throughout. Service and staff the best we've ever known. The food was also very good. This was the best hotel experience I have ever had.

In trying to arrange activities such as horse riding, some members of staff were very helpful, but follow up on promises was very poor leaving me stranded. ... Some confusion about dates as we asked to stay another night because we were enjoying ourselves! ... Absolutely worth a visit! Fantastic views.

Very nice place. We were given suites- sitting room plus Bedroom. Wonderful accommodations. Staff very helpful. Beautiful location. We did not use your directions, and was applying those given to us by another organization- they worked fine. Dinner in fancy dining area was fantastic, and breakfast the next morning was high end as well. ... We did not use tuscany.net for information, as a conference organization I work for runs meetings at Il Ciocco, which is why I went there. ... Mountain side retreat- beautiful vistas, 5 star accommodation- super staff- one of a kind resort.

I enjoyed my stay and the surroundings. In addition to the one night booked through Tuscany.net, I was a guest at the hotel with a conference that convened over the preceding 5 days. One element of the hotel that needs improvement is the signage indicating the location of the Reception for check in. This was not obvious to me and many other guests. ... The hiking and cycling opportunities were not up to my expectations. Fortunately, I had a car and could drive to places for hiking. ... Nice accommodations, good food and great views. The cost of simple beverages such as beer, coffee and juice was extremely high. The popularity with motorcyclists and road rally groups was unexpected. Since I prefer bicycling and hiking this motor sport clientele is not for me. I had hoped for more opportunities for hiking. I recommend having a car at this location.

I had extreme difficutly in finding the Il Ciocco using the one directions and map. The location was very remote from Lucca which is were I planned to stay. There were signs to the Il Ciocco from Lucca, but they were not placed at all of the turns. It was only by stopping twice to get directions were we able to arrive. No sign directing us to reception. No one greeted us. Would not recommend to others without improved directions and a much improved map. ... I wish our problems with finding the property had not negatively affected our opinion of our stay

At check-in we did not receive information about what resort facilities were inclusive in our accommodation, such as swimming pool use, etc. We also did not have any instructions on how to use appliances or what was inclusive in house-keeping; what was expected as to our own obligations for care, etc. The chalets are very nice; but are obviously the poor step-sister as far as administrative concerns. ... We were not given prior instructions on what would be available at our chalet. We did not know what we needed to bring ourselves, such as kitchen utensils and bath goods, etc. We had two pots for cooking - one very large and one very small and a skillet.
But the housekeeping staff were delightful and competent. ... We were able to check out the night before leaving and that made it easier for us. ... The dining rooms are lovely; the food is terrible. The descriptive ingredients included ridiculous attempts to sound high style; but the results tasted bland, not freshly purchased and badly cooked; and the meals were not inexpensive! It was the worst meal we had in three weeks in Italy!
There IS NO store to buy food items on the porperty as promised. The tiny room we were sent to had small quantities of snacks and gift items and one high-priced jar of tomato sauce and one package of spaghetti. We arrived unable to purchase and cook our meal in our kitchen, as it was too far to drive and the hours were not right to go to Barga to a grocery store. This proved to be a great handicap throughout our visit...still eating nothing was a better idea than that restaurant food! ... The location is remarkably beautiful. Someone had a huge idea and expectation for this as a resort, but the overall disrepair, interrupted preservation or renewal attempts, and abandonment of many property sites is VERY depressing. It is obvious that Il Ciocco is, at present, a struggling operation.

But they said that they had not received the voucher advice but when they went behind the office they had all the paperwork. This resulted in a delay of about 10 mins ... I asked at reception for maps etc and they said they did not have any. I asked again and they looked and they had plenty of maps!! ... beautiful location, service intermittently good. food was excellent.

Wonderful views, good staff, excellent food,if in Italy, you must stay there, BUT, you need to have a car.

I think it would be easier to get into the Ciocco property with a more detailed map. I woould add other street that are not supposed to be taken for example.
At the Ciocco property, it is not straight forward to understand were to stop your car besides the many parking spaces. You should add a sign that indicate the Hotel Check in area then it will be easier for teh first time guest to understand where to park a car and to enter teh Ciocco gates. ... At the breakfast table I was expecting to find a more smiling person showing us where to sit in order to have breakfast. ... A beautiful place to stay in GArfagnana area and with good facilities
