No smoking sign clearly displayed when
you arrive. However someone had clearly
been smoking thru out our entire stay.

Rustic and remote. That is what
travellers want when thinking about
booking Tuscany. Nice accomodations but
not fancy. you can not book this Castle
or in my opinion anything in tuscany
without a car. Tis needs to be strongly
recommended, unless there is a tour coming
thru.

Castel Pietraio is a place I could easily spend a month at. The owners were very hospitable and the location was perfect for spending time 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. Thank you for listing this desirable property.

Very relaxed atmosphere.
Had a very enjoyable stay. The Castle was in an excellent location, scenery was beautiful, it was peaceful and was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxed break.
Would definitely consider choosing the accomodation again when visiting Italy.

Castel Pietraio definitely lived up to my expectations, it was the first time I booked accomodation over the internet and I was not disappointed, it was Excellent.

Charming castle in the middle of Tuscany. Easy access to the major road between Florence and Siena. The town of Monteriggioni has 3 or 4 really good places to eat. There is a good little wine shop in town also. Nice place to stroll around, no very crowded. The gal at the reception area is a kick! She is helpful and really enjoys her work so that makes it fun for the guests. Our stay took place as the weather was warming up so the bug were just starting to come out. We arrived back at our apartment to find some ants had gotten in and there was a line of them going from a bedroom window into the living room area. I contacted the groundskeeper who lives onsite and he came to take a look right away. He sprayed the path up to the window, and using a non-toxic spray, killed the ants there. They came and checked the room the following two days while we were out, swept/mopped the floor and caulked the window pane where they came in at. We were impressed with the quality of the place in general, and when an issue arose they addressed it quickly, thoroughly and followed up to keep it from re-occuring. To me, that is the mark of exceptional service!! Gabriella was fabulous, just as all the reviews we read stated!

Everything was very clear, the only thing I would recommend is clarifying for travellers from other countries that having a car is very important as the only way to travel to and from the castle is by taxi and almost no bus or train service.

We stayed in an authentic 13th century castle with modern amenities, including air conditioning. The rooms were clean and spacious and the pool was nice. The location was perfect to experience rural Italy and the Tuscany region.

An ideal location for a getaway for a few days. close to Sienna yet in the countryside. A fantastic restaraunt in the lower village. The hospitality was superb the best we recived during our italian stay. the 20m swimming pool was a real treat

The hot water for bath and shower did not seem to be on demand.It seemed to take 10 mins for the shower to reach a decent temperature.
The variety of goods for breakfast was limited and slightly disappointing considering the patisserie available in Italy.

We had an amazing experience. Gabrielle, the woman at the front desk was helpful in every way possible. The property is beautiful and immaculate. We stayed in an apartment and it had everything that we needed and more. The kitchen was very well equiped. We had our two year old daughter with us whom they provided a crib for which we did not even request. There was also an excellent playground on the grounds which was an added bonus for us. I highly recommend this property to anyone who wishes to visit Tuscany. We will stay there again when we return.

The property was even more beautiful in person than it was in the photos. And the views out of our windows were breathtaking. We could lay in our bed at night and look out the window at the most beautiful sky in the world.

We found the location to be very good, we were able to go on many nice day trips and loved returning to our castle at night. Although all of the rooms were booked while we were there, we rarely saw any of the other guests and it was a s if we were the only people there.

If you get a chance you have to go to Castle Pietraio, it was like living in a movie! It was heaven.

The welcoming person (Gabriella) was wonderfull and so helpfull!
The appartment (- Guarda castello - was the smallest and least expensive) was ok but lacked natural lighting since there were only a small window in the kitchen - living room). The argest room was the bedroom. We had access to a pleasant terrace. OK for fair weather. Wonderfull environment, superb pool. Plumming in the kitchen was weak but otherwise, the stay has been very pleasant.

A wonderfull friendly place, particularly during summer. Nice people. Good 'central point' to discover Tuscany. 30 min to Firenze and 20 to Sienna.
Kids will love the pool!

The castle was great and the location unbeatable- a very short drive from all the sites, plus a 5 minute walk to a charming village. The receptionist, Gabriela, was outstanding and she helped make our stay special and memorable.

We would definitely go back to Castel Pietraio. The manager Gabriella was always available and also very helpful. She provided reservations for us at two wonderful restaurants in the area. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. The room was decorated tastefully and very comfortable. Great place.

I didn't ask but I would have loved a tour of the castle. For me, staying is a castle was like living in a novel and seeing more of the castle interior would have been fun.

Incredibly peaceful, with a picturesque setting of Tuscan country side. The hotel is easily 4* by Italian standards and the staff (specially the receptionist Gabriella), are very helpful. This hotel gave us more confort, more services, better amenities and lower price than most places we stayed at in Italy.

I have heard horror stories about renting overseas properties on-line, but Castel Pietraio was absolutely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. Although the room seemed clean, we had a number of large insects in our room which was somewhat surprising. Also, we had assumed that although we weren't staying directly in the castle, that we might be able to take a tour of it, however that was not offered.

The hotel was small and quiet, with large rooms decorated in a simple Tuscan style. The castle was in an ideal location, close to Siena and San Gimignano. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Although there were a few problems, overall our stay was pleasant.

More information about the local touristic sites would have been welcome if they had been available at the reception desk (i.e. list of places to visit in the area with opening hours, costs, etc..)
