Profile |
Casa Ranieri was once an old farm, which has been skilfully restored following the artistic traditions of the Val d'Orcia. The complex consists of three rural buildings which surround a typical piazza paved with Sienese terracotta and shaded by ancient cypresses. The atmosphere is one of an elegant Sienese country village. |
From Casa Ranieri the view is like that from a natural terrace which overlooks Val d'Orcia with its fortresses, churches and castles of medieval towns of Castiglione d'Orcia, San Quirico d'Orcia, Pienza and Radicofani. In the Spring, when everything is in bloom, there is a moltitude of traditional festivals and fairs in all the towns and villages. It reflects the spirit of Siena, deep-rooted by centuries of tradition, with the perpetual and vigorous defense of one's tower. |
At Casa Ranieri you will be welcomed by Nadia and Piero. Nadia is a qualified cook and gives lessons on the history and art of cooking. Piero is a graduate in biology and has taught in the faculty of Ecology and Animal Ethology at Rome University. Always having had a passion for horses he raises show horses and take part in athletic competitions. |
Casa Ranieri is the only place south of Siena that is a recognised Coni Fise centre with pony school and federal horse riding instructor, able to offer you real holidays directly in touch with nature and horses. In Casa Ranieri you are just stuck for choice as to how to spend your holidays. You can choose between nature and sport: inside the farm there are 8 horses and 10 ponies available to ride among rural churches and castles of Val d’Orcia, accompanied by an expert horse riding instructor who will also offer lessons in the covered riding school. |
Alternatively, you can choose to visit villages and castles that alternate on the hills of the entire valley: from the fascinating and mysterious fortress of Radicofani, to the inextinguishable beauty of Pienza or choosing a relaxing soak in the thermal waters of Bagni San Filippo and Bagno Vignoni. If on the other hand you prefer a holiday of total relaxation … then you just have to sink into the wonderful view you have from Casa Ranieri, between a dive in the pool inside the farm and a ceramics lesson, or gardening, bridge or cooking under the guidance of Nadia, a qualified cook as well as owner of the farm, who will reveal the secrets of Val d’Orcia’s ancient traditions. |
