 In Lunigiana, a region of history and traditions, the presence of the man goes back to the prehistoric period, as given evidence by the recent discovery in Groppoli of the Statues Stele of the Bronze-Age, today kept in the local museums. The village of Mulazzo, on a hill dominating the right side of the Magra river, plays an important role in the Middle-Age history: in fact, it was one of the most ancient residence of the Malaspina dynasty and one tells that Dante Alighieri was their guest in the tower of the castle, where he was inspired during the writing of some parts of his Divine Comedy.
This is the region of the hundred castles, and the area of the ancient library tradition.
