A complex of five apartments available for vacation rental in the heart of the Chianti Senese. Casale di Villore opened its doors in late April 2004 after years of exhaustive renovations. Villore's history begins in 1200 when it was built as a watchtower from which guards employed by noble families could survey the surrounding countryside. It was such an important look-out point that it is drawn on several antique maps of the region. Throughout its 800 years history, a series of annexes were built to the house by the owners and the farmers who worked the land. |
Located near the Via Chiantigiana, one of the most historically significant roads in the region, Villore enjoys a hilltop position from which the pastoral beauty of the Tuscan countryside is in full view. The property has been divided into five apartments of varying sizes, each named after a different type of grape in honour of the region's wine culture. The smallest apartment, Morellino, accommodates only two people while in the largest one, the elegantly furnished Sangioveto, can sleep up to 10 people. Each apartment has its own private entrance, a full kitchen and a small garden for the exclusive use of its guests. |
The furniture is antique and the apartments have been decorated by the owner himself who has charmingly combined traditional Tuscan elements with the feeling of spaciousness, light and airiness that hallmark modern design. Outdoors, a large swimming pool is nearly hidden amongst an olive grove. From poolside, guests have a breathtaking view of the towers of San Gimignano and the Castle of Strozzavolpe. Cypress trees, vineyards and oak forests extend as far as the eye can see, criss-crossed here and there by a shady country lane or a gravel path leading to an old stone farmhouse. A wood burning oven is still fully functional and can be used for pizza and or bed baking upon request. |
Bicycles are also available for rental upon request. The surrounding territory offers a wealth of possibilities for excursions, San Gimignano is only 17 km away and the quaint medieval town of Castellina in Chianti is easily reached by bicycle. In addition, a number of walking and biking trails lead from the Casale, from which guests can explore the nature beauty of the region. The area is also home to several Romanesque churches, among them San Pietro di Cedda, Santa Agese and Santa Maria a Talciona. Of course, Tuscany's food and wine culture are of incredible importance in the area and excursions to local wineries and farms can be organized upon request. |
