Profile |
Besides its extraordinary beauty, San Gimignano offers an excellent position for touring in Tuscany. A half hour's drive takes you to Volterra and Siena, and in an hour you can reach Florence, Pisa, Montepulciano or Montecatini Terme, or even the seashore, thus there is a wide range of choices to suit every need and preference. |
Highlights which must be seen are the Collegiate Church, one of the most famous in the world, containing frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli and Ghirlandaio, and the Museo Civico with its collection of apothecary jars from the Spezieria di Santa Fina. Besides its famous Vernaccia wine, San Gimignano's many shops offer the products of typical Tuscan artisans, marked by the skill and tradition handed down from father to son, from boar sausages to cheeses, from terracotta to hand-made pottery, to leather goods. |
