Home to the Counts Capponi since its purchase on May 23rd 1524, Calcinaia remains at the family’s heart with members of each generation giving new life to the fields, woods, vineyards and cellars just as each spring brings new abundance to the soil.

The wine is a perfect example of the family’s love for its land. With each vintage, the Capponis share the hopes, worries, pride and care that are part of winemaking.

Chianti Classico from Villa Calcinaia is the truest expression of a family’s pride and sense of history. Villa Calcinaia sits on the sunny hills bordering the Greve river, twenty kilometers south of Florence.

Composed of approximately 300 acres in woods and pastureland, the estate includes the family’s private villa, numerous farmhouses and select acreage of vineyards and olive groves.
Guests to Villa Calcinaia may enjoy the hospitality of various agritourism residences, apartments in the newly restructured, historic farmhouses that mark the landscape.

These apartments, featured on Italy’s RAI3 travel program Bell’Italia, have been praised for their renovation that has brought together
the most modern conveniences with an historical appreciation for the countryside, its customs and architecture. For those guests visiting for the day, Calcinaia offers wine tastings, meals and tours, providing an overview of the estate, its agricultural products and the many dimensions of this notable family’s history.

The Counts Capponi have recently renovated one of their farmhouses in San Pierino to create two comfortable apartments reflecting traditional Tuscan interiors. San Pierino is an historical cluster of houses situated among the vineyards, olive trees and forest that rise in the heart of the Chianti (only 2 km from Greve in Chianti).

A small farmhouse of traditional Tuscan design, Le Refie is situated at an altitude of 650 meters amid quiet forestland. With easy access from the main road, the house sits at the base of Monte San Michele right next to national parkland. Located only a few kilometers from the main country towns (Greve in Chianti, 13 km; Figline, 12 km), Le Refie is located in the heart of Chianti.
