The history of Borgo Giusto is as ancient as the stones used in this area from time immemorial, to build houses, and as simple as the life of humble peasant families who lived here for centuries, passing on from generation to generation the art of labouring in olive and vine groves, to produce the typically golden olive oil and fine wines of their beloved country. It was hard work in those steep hills.

Borgo Giusto's history goes back to the sixteenth century: the houses were built close to one another, in the random space allowed by the available ground, and so in time a cluster of small buildings became a village, through which ran narrow paths and ramps, widening up onto a small square.

From the renovation, which has immediately shown itself as an exciting challenge, have been made 24 apartments and 8 villas provided with all comforts and furnished in typical Tuscan style with solid wood furniture and wrought iron beds. Inside all original particulars - such as ceilings, fireplaces and kitchen sinks - have been preserved untouched. With great efforts in the fields that surround Borgo Giusto we produce again wine, oil and the products from our vegetable garden that are served in our restaurant, perhaps going along the dishes with the homemade bread just took out of one of the wooden oven of the village.

All around, like a soft blanket, endless chestnut groves, deep green in the Summer, turning into yellows and burnt browns in the Autumn, when chestnuts fall in their husks. And then, Spring is tender green again, and white like the flowers of the acacias, bearing the promise of sweet honey to come. Changes to a peaceful way of life came about at the beginning of this century, people started to emigrate, particularly towards England and Scotland, and slowly, the village lost most of its inhabitants.

The last to leave, did so in the fifties, when industialization offered casier working conditions and better housing, in neighbouring urban centres. Few remember today the original structures and the people who lived in the village. This is why, drawing from local oral tradition, each house has been named after the last owner who lived there, to preserve the memory of a long history, and witness their life in the village: it is particularly so for Giosy and Tosca, the original owners, but also for Aldo, Pilade and many others...

In the 16th Tuscany, names of cities, villages and hamlets sounded differently than today. So even Borgo Giusto, dating back from those days, bore a different name: Soccolognora. Just as Lucca was Luca, Garfagnana was spelt Carfagnana, Versilia was Versilla and Tuscany was named Tuscia, today Borgo Giusto, named after the Giusti family, who settled there first, is a faithful rebuilding, stone by stone of old Soccolognora.

Borgo Giusto is located in the beatiful hills north of Lucca, in a famous area called "Garfagnana", completely immersed in a huge green nature. From here it is possible to go for a walk or ride through the woods, visit the places where lived the famous composer Puccini or go to the "Parco di Collodi" home of Pinocchio, the most famous puppet in the world.
