 Montepulciano hosts numerous live festivals. "Piazza Grande" is one of the venues for the international classical and contemporary music, dance, theatre and figurative arts festlval "Cantiere Internazionale dell'Arte". The Festival of the Assumption is celebrated with light opera in the town squares. Processions in historical dress precede Montepulciano's Palio ("Bravio delle Botti", last Sunday in August) when teams from each district or 'contrada' race a barrel trhough thc streets. For thc active mountain bikes can be hired and there are tennis courts. |
 There is a hot spring swimming pool at "Sant'Albinio" (approx. 3 km) and open and covered swimmimg pools at Montepulciano Stazione or Chianciano (8 km). Montepulciano lies in the very heart of southern Tuscany and is an ideal base from which to visit its attractions Pienza, Montalcino, Bagno Vignoni, Chiusi, Lake Trasimeno are all within easy reach.
