Very polite and warm welcome. We were shown to our room and informed about breakfast. ... Beautiful Hotel, thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We would definately stay there again, highly recomended. ... We had to leave for the airport at 4.30am. Staff were up at that time to show us out and check out was done the night before. ... Stunning hotel, very pretty and relaxing. Aproximately 20 minutes walk into the town centre. Highly recomended.

directions to hotel very unclear. A map of siena with clear direction from the auto strada would be helpful. had to stop at a local gas station for help. ... Two telephone messages left by our family never reached us. ... Gave helpful directions for driving to our next stop. ... Very neat and clean. We were very pleased with our stay, but very little English was spoken by the staff. ... Great location, very nice facility and friendly, helpful staff.

There was no-one at the hotel who spoke English. The entrance is up a steep narrow flight of stairs, and then our room was down stairs, there is a street entrance but it is not in use. ... People should be warned about the stairs, this hotel is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Excellent breakfast. Some traffic noise. ... Very comfortable modern hotel. Close to the old city but away from the crowds. Frequent bus service nearby, local shops.

We arrived in Siena by train and took a taxi to Hotel Alex. We pulled our luggage up a flight of ourside stairs. We saw what looked like an elevator, but we didn't ask how to use it. We felt quite welcome upon arrival. The website had not provided a twin-bed option, but at our request, the host graciously switched the double bed for us so that we would have twin beds. The host provided a map of Siena and very helpful instructions for how to get around. Hotel personnel do not speak English, but we managed quite nicely with a dictionary and sign language. ... Our room was immaculate and beautifully decorated in a lovely Italian country style. The room was very spacious and well-appointed. The marble bath was also immaculate and new, with a daily abundance of linens. We had a telephone, minibar, and television. Breakfasts were delicious. The hotel has a panoramic view of the Sienese countryside. ... We needed to leave early in the morning. The staff checked us out and ordered a taxi for us the evening before our departure, and it arrived exactly on the minute. ... I don't remember exactly, but I don't believe that the website gave a twin-bed option. We loved Hotel Alex. ... As above.

Check in was quick and easy and we were promptly shown to our room. ... Room was good size and the bathroom was clean and modern. The only complaint I had was everytime the toilet was flushed in the middle of the night or early in the morning it woke us up because the pipes were in the wall right behind our head! Also a lift to the hotel would have been nice, as my husband had to carry 3 large and heavy suitcases up a large flight of stairs to the hotel as it was on the 2nd level. I do not recall if this was disclosed on their website! ... Fast and efficient. ... If it was not mentioned that there was no lift to the hotel and therefore would require you to carry all your luggage up the stairs, it should be! ... Great location! Just outside the walls of Siena. Friendly staff and had a very nice breakfast. Clean and decent size rooms and bathrooms. Also, they do have private parking which was a plus for us. Overall a great choice!

We stayed at the Alex for 2 days & were thoroughly please with our stay. The husband & wife owners spoke little English but their friendly & helpful attitude dissolved any language barrier. Our room was simple & clean with a small refrigerator stocked with drinks. Bathroom was modern. Though situated on a corner just outside the gates, we didn’t experience any noise problems. We had a nice breakfast in the tea room in the mornings, Not big on amenities. No soda, snack, ice machines, But we didn’t find these things in any hotel we stayed at in Italy. No bar or restaurant either. The Alex did have a nice large outdoor terrace to relax at after a day walking the city. Only a 10-15 minute stroll to the center of Siena (Piazza del Campo) We were glad not to stay in the city proper (busy, noisy). We chose the Alex for it’s reasonable price & were pleased to find it was truly a deal. A nice, simple, friendly hotel would describe it best.

Hotel Alex was very cute and well-located. It actually WAS a short ten-minute walk to the gate of Siena. A nice, spacious area for the continental breakfast. No elevators at the hotel.

very pleasant and helpful, good first impressions ... a lovely homely feel ... where it actually is, could say just outside the town wall but easilyy walkable in 15mins. nice and quiet ... very good finishing touches, staff were very helpful and welcoming but not always there, as in they were not hanging around and looking over your shoulder.

The reception desk is on the 2nd floor, and so my daughter and I had to lug our luggage up some steps to get there--which seems to be the norm in Italy. The person at the reception desk was very friendly and accommodating. She gave us a map and showed us how to get to the Duomo. ... We were thrilled to get a room at a decent price for the Palio on July 1st and 2nd. The large air conditioned room was very well decorated, the beds were comfortable, it had a nice view out the window, it had a refrigerator and TV, and a very nice private bathroom. Breakfast was included, and was served in a lovely breakfast room, and was one of the best we have had in Italy. I was very pleased with the accommodations, and I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is located just outside the city walls, and we easily walked to the Campo and Duomo. The hotel was very clean, and decorated beautifully. The employees were friendly and polite. The only negative thing that I can mention is that our room was a little noisy in the morning. It was one of two on the ground floor, and right across from the breakfast room, the laundry, and a TV lounge. It was also close to the metal stairway, and so in the morning, despite double doors to shield the noise, we heard people coming down the stairs to breakfast and talking in the TV lounge and the breakfast room. Since we had to get up early anyway, it wasn't really a problem, but if someone wanted to sleep in, I would suggest asking for a quieter room upstairs.
... On the morning of our departure, we asked the receptionist to call a taxi to take us to the train station. He tried to call and also tried on the internet, but no taxis were available. He finally contacted the hotel owner, and told us that she would personally drive my daughter and me to the train station. We were on the way to her car when a taxi finally showed up. We left with a very favorable impression of Hotel Alex, and with this nugget of wisdom: If you want a taxi in the morning, you should call for it the night before! ... We really liked our room, though we would have preferred being upstairs. The whole hotel was tastefully decorated. I thought it was very reasonably priced, especially for the day before and the day of the Palio horse race. We were very pleased with Hotel Alex, and would definitely recommend it.

Hotel Alex is conveniently located one block outside an entry gate to Siena which eliminates navigating the inner tangle of the city which is very crowded with tourists. ... Breakfast is in their beautiful restaurant dining room with adequate fare. There is free parking but it is in a somewhat small garage under the hotel. ... You have to enter by a flight of stairs outside which was no problem for us -- the staff helped with baggage -- but this may be hard for people who cannot climb stairs easily. ... Clean and very comfortable.

We were nicely greeted and given a choice of rooms. Later Claudio was very helpful with excellent dinner recommendations. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. ... The room was quite comfortable, bright and airy and the bathroom was better than most. The view from the back terrace is amazingly beautiful. Breakfasts were terriffic. While the staff does not speak much English we were still able to get dinner recommendations, directions for day trips etc. And everyone was very nice. ... There is a mini bus right across the street that takes you inside the walls if you are tired of all the walking. We discovered this the last night after our feet were falling off!!!

We never located an exit from A1 called 'Siena Est'. ... Good location. Very nice, large room. Tight bath but completely adequate. Could have a little more furniture in the room, including more table space and a full-length mirror. A little traffic noise after 7:30am but quiet all night. ... The proprietor speaks very little English but gets additional help when needed. ... The garage is small (5 cars or so) and accessible by only small cars. But ample street parking is available in the immediate area but you need to make sure to understand how & when to pay for it. ... Great location just outside the wall, especially if you have a car since only locals and taxis can drive within the walls. Easy bus service into the town is available but it is only a medium walk to the Campo (somewhat uphill though). Fresh baked croisants and espresso at breakfast were nice to wake up to. I would stay at Hotel Alex again.

Although the receptionist (proprietor?) did not speak English he was so cheerful and welcoming that we managed to communicate adequately. He was most helpful with the garage which is a bit tricky to get into and out of, a fairly common experience in Italy. ... A pleasant hotel, convenient for walking into the center of Siena.

The staff were very friendly and it was a nice room. The only downside was that the room wasn't that quiet - near the entrance and we heard a party of people celebrating in the night/early morning which affected our sleep and you could hear the plumming from the ensuite in the room next door. The breakfast was delicious! ... I'm not sure if the website mentions the view from the terrace which is spectatular. ... This is a friendly and pleasant hotel, in a good location just outside the city walls. The breakfast is excellent and the view from the sun soaked terrace fantastic. If you are not a party animal you might want to request a quiet room away from the entrance.

The directions were fine and we had no problems finding the hotel. I do wish that they had allowed us to bring our luggage in through the dining room which was on the street level rather than going up many stairs carrying it. We did leave through this door which helped alot. ... We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Alex. The location was great for getting into Siena. The rooms were clean and we enjoyed the breakfast area and breakfast. We even asked for a hair dryer when the one in the room was broken. They immediately got us another and even sold it to us (at a reasonable price!) when we asked for it for the remainder of our trip. We enjoyed our stay there. It may have been a bit noisy because of the traffic and our location next to the dining area, but we wore ear plugs so we had no problems! ... No problems. ... No ... Great location, good value, beds comfortable.

Siena is a very confusing area to navigate by car. When we failed to find the hotel, we telephoned from a village very close by (less than 5miles), seeking directions. The receptionist had never heard of it! Therefore, she could not give us any directions. We have travelled quite a lot and have never come across this situation before. It was not a language problem. Before going to the hotel, I visited tourist information in Siena. They gave me poor directions to the hotel, but it was much too general and of very little help. There is no point giving a tourist directions from Porta Roma or another gate, when tourists are not allowed drive through the city! ... It was clean and spacious but not quiet. All the hard floors mean that noise travels throughout the whole hotel, whether it is children, tour groups or even chairs dragged across the floor in the dining room. However, there was no noise from the street, which was good. ... parking ... convenient, basic but value for money; 15min walk to centre; parking a car may be a problem but we were lucky. Need a good map of the area outside the walls of Siena city.

If you are taking the bus to Siena, then this hotel is not very near where the bus lets you off. Also, if you have heavy luggage, the reception is on the first floor and you have to climb a long staircase to get to the reception. ... The rooms were smaller than they appear on the website and waking up to the toilet being flushed by the room next door wasn't terrific, but our stay was pleasant. The breakfast was plentiful and satisfying. ... That the reception is on the first floor and that there is no elevator. ... Not a bad place to stay, but I'm sure you can get something for the same money and quality closer to the centre of town in the off season.

We arrived on side roads from Monteriggioni and all the directions to the hotel were from motorways. ... Staff were very friendly, and willing to chat in italian to us so we could practise the language. ... The hotel is on a busy road junction and there was a lot of traffic noise.

Good hotel and location, spacious rooms. Please just avoid room downstairs to the right of the breakfast room. My kids stayed there and it was spooky. They had to transfer to our room on the 1st floor in the middle of the night. Other than this, the older lady at breakfast was extremely helpful and the staff generally pleasant.
